What's the funniest movie you would recommend to me from 05?
I bought a new home theater projector and got free Blockbuster club for a month. I like only comedy movies and I don't laugh very easily.

I'd like to get your recommendations of the funniest movies you've seen.

To give you an idea the kind I do, and don't like:

Nothing slapstick like Jerry Lewis....or romantic stuff...nothing with kids or college pranks...no musicals.

Some movie examples I did find funny:

1. In Laws. The original with Alan Arkin

2. Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes

3. Sibling Rivalry

4. All Pink Panther...Peter Sellers is hillarious

5. Windy City Heat...Possibly funniest movie I ever saw. Was on special R unedited Comedy Central. Bobcat Goldthwaite directed.   See it if you can.

Any recommedations appreciated.

1. I liked "The 40 Year Old Virgin" a lot
It may be a bit sophmoric for your tastes, but I thought it would be stupid and ended up laughing my ass off the whole time.

A Dirty Shame

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365125/
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000929UOQ

(I know it says 2004, but it didn't open here until 2005)

Stephen Chow's Kung-Fu Hustle - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0373074/ , Only Human - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376177/ and The 40-Year Old Virgin - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405422/ were all pretty good too.

edit - you may also be interested in a British film called Festival. I felt it let down what was quite a well done opening act and interesting concept generally. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468736/ Finally, I've not seen it, but the documentary of sorts The Aristocrats is supposed to be very good - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436078/

7. I saw that surfing around
hbo and showtime channels. I found it very dry and not very funny. Stopped watching it. But thanks.

11. The 40 Year Old Virgin
Funnier than it had any right to be. A romantic comedy disguised as a buddy comedy.

Steve Carell's performance was perfect in every way. A moral, decent person to his core, dealing very realistically with the crudity and vice of his co-workers.

12. Star Wars Episode 3.
Peoples' Choice awards only show how embarrassing Americans are.

Assuming you don't get bored from laughing at it, of course...

The plot is shallow and topical; the dialogue so horrendous and tedious that it makes toddler babble more coherent (and more interesting)... it relies far more on special effects (which still look dodgy and will look far worse in about 5 years' time) than anything else... it's gutter trash that gets big raves solely because it pokes fun at the * administration via lines of dialogue, some of which are obvious clones of what HAS been said in real life. That alone does not make any movie classic; I may as well do the same thing with sock puppets. :eyes:
