LCD TV dead
I bought an LCD TV monitor last February. Tonight half the screen turned into bars. I called the manufacturer for service info and was told that I have to ship it to them at my cost provided I can provide a valid receipt. Well no receipt can be found so now I have a $1,000 paperweight. On the other hand I was told that Costco where I bought the TV has a very generous return policy. Does anyone know if this is true because if it is that puppy is going back tomorrow.:argh:

1. Costco's return policy's 6 mos
They may be able to get you serviced through the manufacturer or print you a duplicate reciept, though.

2. yes but I don't know if they keep customer records of purchases.
Did you buy it with a credit card? If so, you have some protection there. Else, get a copy of the check you wrote from your bank.

Sorry about that.

4. I;ve had no problem with Costco.
I had the receipt though. I think they're better than most when it comes to customer service.
And, I think they do track customer's buying habits. Most stores do...sorry the LCD went south.
Hope it gets resolved nicely.

7. tomorrow
I'm going to stop by Costco and ask. I found this article in Wikipedia that mentions their return policy.

Costco has a very generous product return policy that allows customers to return most products indefinitely. Unlike other stores, Costco allows returns of opened media. Many people take advantage of this with DVDs, software and other media. Buyers effectively "rent" the product temporarily by buying and later returning it for a refund. Computers, which most retailers loathe to accept for a refund, have a six-month return period. Even the membership fee is fully refundable at any time.

8. That's exactly what's preventing me from seriously considering
a purchase of an LCD or plasma TV right now...guess I'll stick with the old picture tube until longevity/reliability improve.

9. LCDs have been around for ages; on laptops and PDAs. Today's market
compels you to re-buy all the time. Therefore it's made like diarrhea. Fast, cheap, and you know it's gonna happen again soon.

12. update
Went to Costco right after work, explained the problem to the woman at the counter, she asked if I wanted to return the monitor to which I said yes. Long story short they refunded me the entire purchase price including tax and with that money bought an Akai 27" LCD TV/DVD combo for less money than the original TV cost. I even had money left over to buy a compact refrigerator and still had money left over. Costco rocks!!!
