Did you catch the back drop for W's speech yesterday? I know it is the state flag of Mississippi but seriously do you think this was any accident?

10. Oh the gas guy is celebrating it is he?
Sounds like his company is making a statement here. Well in a way that is good-another day off for the working class.

My boss made a comment about it. I said "Yeah any reason to have another day off even trivial ones"

No comment came back.

but everyone was upset by that so Gov. Gilmore made it two days off. Ah your tax dollars at work.

16. Can a brother have ONE day?
NO!

They came up with that nonsense when every state started having MLK day (Arizona only agreed to it so they could host a Super Bowl). The Sons of Confederate Veterans said OH NO there has to be some Virginians ( Jackson was born in what is now West Virginia BTW) and after lots of more nonsense it was Lee-Jackson-King day<---- note the order of the names :eyes:

21. Oi
Unbelievable. They couldn't have chosen some other notable Virginians, could they? Say, even Jefferson? Okay, I am aware he was a slave owner, but if you had to pick a white guy with some issues......

And I think a brother should eb able to have one day... and I wish they'd give SOME sister -- white, black, Asian, Native American -- a day.

22. mother's day is not good enough?
Most famous guys do not have days either. There is no FDR day or JFK day even Lincoln shares his day with Washington, and all other Presidents. There is no Edison or Einstein day, no Newton day. Only Columbus has a day, but many people do not get it off. Since April needs a holiday, maybe we could have a TS Eliot day

Cinco de Mayo is a non-white day (that also happens to be Karl Marx's birthday). I was kinda hoping that unmarried childless people could have a day too.

15. Texas State Employees have "Confederate Heroes Day", Jan. 19.
It's one of those holidays where the offices are open, but staffed only with a skeleton crew.

See? We're semi-progressive here in TX. :P

I know this date because I usually work that day to be off on my birthday which is the 17th. Unless it was on a Monday or Friday of course. ;)
