17. Beds facing the doorway out of the bedroom

If your feet point towards the doorway exit, it supposedly signifies death in Mediterranean cultures and people never position their beds that way (that's the way you will be taken out of the room if you die). I've heard that the Chinese with their Feng Xui have a similar superstition about beds.

10. Spilling salt or olive oil

My mother always had to pick up the spilt salt and throw it over her left shoulder with her right hand to undo the bad luck. I don't remember what she did about the olive oil but I do remember her saying it was bad luck as well.

Also bad luck was to cross the path of a hunchback. You were supposed to touch his growth to undo the hex, which actually then brought good luck.
