Who else has given up their cell phones? |
|
Ten years ago I couldn't be without one, now I can't stand to have one. Last week I told my boss I refuse to even carry their's (my work) and at home my wife and I, plus my mom next door dropped our Cingular accounts and are now using TracPhones that are pre-paid, they stay turned off and are kept in our vehicles in case of an emergency.
They really do drive me nuts now.

I'm a mom of two school age kids. 'nuff said. They've been real life savers, over the years.
That said, I can totally respect those people that hate them.
I don't hate the phones themselves as much as I get bothered by the people who use them inappropriately.

I think we've talked before about how we look after her. One night she stayed out after 11pm at night after church got out at 8pm and my wife and I didn't know where she was. From that point on I told her to keep a phone on her and call if she was going to be late.
Those wild and crazy old people.
Edit, I checked my posts after typing this. We did talk about our moms yesterday :hi:

Those phones, as annoying as they can be, can really come in handy sometimes.
Have a good one, Dave! :hi:

8. Yeah, my DSL is through the landline, too. |

Which to ditch? Cell or landline? I can't do either at this point although I loathe them both.
I use DialPad over the Internet(s) to make calls sometimes.

7. I hate phones. If I could be completely without a phone, I'd be happy. |
|
The cell phone was my mother's idea and she would "worry" if I didn't have it. :eyes: She uses hers so much I tell her she should just get a Borg implant and be done with it. The various types of rings she has for different people set me on edge. Hell, my own phone sets me on edge even though I picked "American Idiot" for the tune. I guess I like to listen to Green Day on my own terms.
The only reason my cell phone hasn't been tossed out the window? Games. I play solitaire and Bounce, mostly. As for my landline, its days are probably numbered. I may decide that if people really want to call me they can leave a message on my cell phone.
I hate the sound of a ringing phone.

...the phones really started getting on my nerves when they started getting smaller and I never cared for all the extras. I needed a phone that was a phone and one that felt like a phone when I held it in my hand, not like I was talking into a little tic-tac case or something like it. Plus, after six years of my wife calling me four or five times a day just to say, "what ya' doing?" gets old too. One time when she called me at home I asked, "where are you now?" she replied, "I'm turning into the driveway".
I love her, don't deserve her but sheeeeesh!

9. We got rid of our land line |
|
and we have three cell phones. One we keep at home and that one is the phone number we give out. I and my husband each have one, but we did not give these numbers out. We make calls on them, but don't want to receive a call (unless we are calling each other) on them. Works out great and our phone bill is a lot less. We have relatives in other states and our land line bill was killing us.

Haven't had one since and I have absolutely no desire to get one in the future. I can't stand them. I have a huge bag phone for emergencies in my back seat.

If you work in the tech industry, you simply don't work without one. It has become an indespensible and despicable tool of the industry.

The colossal wave of rudeness sweeping this country is really getting to me. I wonder what percentage of sentences spoken over these things consists of either "so what do you want to do tonight" or "So then I told him...." I bet close to 20 percent.
Most irritating invention since the boombox and the car alarm.

17. Had one for a year and was glad when the contract ended |
|
The straw that broke the camel's back? I got three voicemails three days late. That burned me.
It's been four years and I haven't looked back.
I realize some people need them for work or families and such. I know people who require them for some sort of self validation and that in itself is sad...and amusing.

And to be totally honest with you, and myself, I think it was probably the exact reason I bought my first one ten years or so ago when they weren't cheap. The only positive thing about that was I gave up smoking to justify the extra expense. It was about $85 or so back then a month for only 120 minutes.

We've dumped one in favor of VOIP line that we can forward back to the cell if necessary.
I really hate Qwest, and I don't trust cell phone security so we do almost everything with the VOIP phone. (Next step is to get one of those big, old fashioned, clunky looking telephones. Right now I use the phone on the fax machine because it is the only one with a wire....)
Paranoid? Me? Who isn't these days? Paranoia has become adaptative again.
