Real genious! A quick and easy project!
That's me! I have been needing a good spice rack for quite some time, but they're so bloody expensive and they never really have either the room you need or the spices that you use most. And there are so many different choices, from wood to plastic, to glass, chrome and almost any other option possible.

So I decided to make my own. At the hardware store, I picked up a sheet of pegboard. I had them cut it into 3 15" pieces, and threw away the 3" strip that was left. This gave me 3 15"x24" boards.

I went to the dollar store, and purchased those rectangular plastic boxes--you usually get 3 for $1. They're 9 1/2"x 3" deep, and they have decorative slots all around. This was important to have.

At home, I had pegboard hooks--the kind that slide into two holes for extra security. I arranged them on the board to coincide with the two slots of the boxes on either end. I was able to fit 6 of them onto the pegboard in this fashion. Then I screwed the board, with the hooks on them, to the wall, and hung the baskets/boxes on them! Each basket holds about 5 round spice bottles, or, like me, you can also put in your other things, like packages of onion dip, extracts and such.

If you are really creative, paint the board to match your kitchen colors. Just don't let the holes get too clogged. I got a greenish color, but wanted to see how it looked before I painted it, so it's currently on the wall without any paint on it.

The baskets can be easily removed for cleaning, and since it's screwed into the wall, it can be removed if necessary. You can also switch out the baskets with other colored ones if you want--they only had orange and green at my dollar store, so I alternated them on the board.

These are not an exact match, but they're close enough!
