Anyone else prefer "Rob Roy" over "Braveheart?" |
|
They were released within the same year, but Gibson's epic grabbed all the accolades. For my money, though, "Rob Roy" was the superior film: boasting the best ensemble of vulnerable heroes and depraved villains this side of "Shane."
And that duel at the end...

Braveheart was an epic of romantic nationalism, though centered on William Wallace. Rob Roy focused more on the individual. And I did like seeing Karen Matheson from Capercaille sing (the ceilidh scene).

3. one of the great protagonist-villain matchups in film history |
|
Tim Roth was a great bad guy. His character was such a snot, but he was terribly dangerous. I like both films, yet in the last few years I have really come to appreciate how great Rob Roy is. Liam Neeson is one of my favorite actors ever too. The cast is superb through and through.

with the rape scene and her possible pregnancy from it and his immediate acceptance of it, though. It just didn't seem real to me.

The way I see it, his declaration ("It's not the child who needs killing") is indicative that anything that comes from his beloved is, in his eyes, worthy--regardless of who the father was.
