Some nitwit rear-ended me at a light tonight.
Smashed the shit out of the front of his car. Not even a scratch on mine. He hit my trailer hitch. And, what's better, there was a cop right behind him that saw the whole thing.

I let the poor fucker go. He was not drunk. I was not hurt, and my car is fine.

What's the point?

1. I don't understand what you mean by letting him go. I know what you
mean about "What's the point?" - but how was it your decision to let him go if the cop saw it?

2. No injury. No complaintant. In NY
that means, go on your way.

3. Ah. Well I didn't know that, even as a native NYer. Been driving since
'75 with no accidents, so I'm rather lightly informed on such matters.

5. I'd probably have been in some if I'd stayed in NYC. Although, I pretty
much always used mass transit, so maybe not.

6. I've been rear-ended before, but it wasn't his fault.
There was some black ice on the road and I skidded. Luckily my car stopped without hitting anything, but the driver behind me couldn't stop. He hit me and smashed the back of my car pretty good. He was driving a pickup truck, so he didn't even have a dent. The policeman didn't charge him. And his insurance company paid for the damage to my car.
