Got the results of my Hba1c |
|
It was 6.6%. That is considered normal!! It's down from 7.9%, so I have made great strides in controling my diabetes.
Doing the happy dance!

2. Can you explain what that is? |
|
I'm reading that as Homebirth after one caesarean section, but I'm guessing that's not it. ;)

 It's a blood test that measures how well my diabetes has been controlled over the last 3 months. This explains it a bit http://www.diabetestoolbox.com/HbA1c.asp

4. Good to hear you're doing well |

Thanks for the link. I really don't know much about diabetes, I don't have any family members with it or anything.

8. LeftyMom, (and Spacemom) |

I could have said exactly those same words 5 years ago.
Then, my daughter, who was 9 at the time, developed Type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes. Her immune system just killed off all of her beta cells which make insulin. poof! Without going into detail... Type 1 is different than Type 2 diabetes (often called *adult onset*) because people with Type 2 have insulin but their body is sort of resistant to it. Anyway, we had to learn about diabetes in a hurry and the hospital was great at teaching and training, and we love her health care providers, doctors, nurses and all. At first it was like bringing home a whole new kid with a new User's Manual. It was do-able but really changed many aspects of life practically overnight. Things are better and easier now. My daughter has been on an insulin pump (instead of injections) for 3 1/2 years and we love it. Best thing about it - no more eating schedules. We still test blood sugar often and count all carbs (sugars) but the computerized pump delivers the insulin. Short of explaining all that, I'll just say - it's great.
and Congratulations to Spacemom! :woohoo:

6. HbA1C keeps you honest!! |
|
Docs tell me about patients who say they've been "good", and have good control on the day of their appointment, but their lousy HbA1Cs give them away.
