The fence my father built 60 years ago survived Katrina!
I had never seen the house my father grew up in, and he hasn't seen it for forty years, so over Christmas we drove to NOLA to see if it had survived. It had, and so had the fence he helped his father build when he was ten. Apparently galvanized steel sunk in concrete can survive 60 years AND a rising water flood! :-)

PS There were people living in the neighorhood, though I couldn't tell if it had power. You can see the waterline about two feet above the porch, and on the neighboring house, though it's faint.
