Not medical advise, just wondering about something. |
|
I'm gonna call the doctor tomorrow anyway, even though I haven't been to one in 11 years. I am 41 and since I have turned 40 I have noticed everything falling apart. Right now I am to the point where both elbows and both wrists have become almost to the point of useless.
I can barley lift a can of beer..LOL. As I said, I am getting an appointment tomorrow, but I wanted to know if it is normal for the joints to hurt this bad after turning 40 years old?
My mother has some arthritis issues and I am guessing this is from that. I hope I'm not breaking rules here, I just wanted to know what other people here thought. I'm not looking for medical advise, I have the internet for that. :)
I hate going to doctors. I guess it is time though.

I will take advantage of my hospitalization, but I just hate going to see them. I am afraid they might find something.

2. It seems weird that the 40-year mark would act like a switch |
|
but I often hear EP complain that turning 40 causes a shift. It's good that you're going to a doctor. It could well be something simple that an anti-inflammatory could help you with. Good luck.

I heard things about turning 40, but I brushed them aside. When I turned 40 the shit hit the fan..lol. It seems to be all catching up with me now.

4. I think 40 is too young for everything falling apart. |
|
Most 40+ yr. olds have no problem lifting cans of beer and even 30 packs of beer.
Go to the MD.

7. I'm the same age as you and I can relate, in terms of joint issues. |
|
It's a trip gettin' older.... :eyes:
Probably worthwhile to get a complete physical, since it's been so long, just for peace of mind.
Good luck, johnnie! :hi:

10. I have even worse news. |

Since you're 41, it's probably time for a prostate check too.
I haven't had one yet, either. Probably next year or so.

12. It is not unusual for that to happen at age 40 |
|
and I know several people with arthritis issues in their late 30s. It's a wear and tear disease. Oh and here's a funny but true quote from an older friend of mine. Before 40 every year is a year, after forty every year is two years. Good luck. You could have combo tendonitis and arthritis too. That is extremely common. They will probably give an RX for celebrex or something similar and exercises. Let us know what happens. I have a shoulder and a knee problem so I think I hear you. I didn't go to MDs for a long time too until I started going again about 2 years ago. (I hate doctors, dentists, etc., too, no offense to any MDs and dentists out there)

13. Younger brother used to tease my sister & I about 'falling apart' |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 11:17 PM by havocmom
She would say 'just wait!' She was gonna be outta town on his 40th birthday & made me promise to take him out to dinner and stuff. OK.
Made reservations for great prime rib place. He LOVES prime rib and a good salad.
So, I pick him up. He opens the door, and looks like hell. Face all red, jaw swollen out, eye almost shut. What the (#)&$)&$? Bar room brawl with Tyson? You still got an ear?
Tooth went bad... overnight. Told him we would do dinner some other time. He insisted on going for prime rib.
Waiter took his order. 'How would you like that, sir? Shall I have the bartender put it in the blender for you?' OUCH! Forty not so fun.
But, with some adjustments (mostly to your thinking) you will get to doing better.
On my 40th, I forgot there was a cake from my staff on the car seat. I sat on it. And I sat on it in front of a witness. But, it had a happy ending. He offered to lick the frosting off ;)
Get a good going over from the doctor. Accept that things change and adjustments have to be made. Pretty soon, you either stop being bothered so much or lose your mind and just plain stop remembering to worry.
Be well.

15. How's your neck and upper back? A lot of pain issues can originate in the |
|
neck area, creating symptoms in the hands, wrists and arms.
But yes, the age of 40 brings us to task on the wear and tear of our joints. Glucosomine DOES help, it helps me immensely, I'm plagued with joint aches and pains my whole life due to injuries of all sorts.
LOTS of water, believe it or not, lube those joints. More fruits and veggies. But most importantly, chiropractic is my best friend. My pinched nerves in various locales cause more havoc than my joint injuries...
Good luck, you'll be fine! Listen to what your body is saying.
