How can a conservative enjoy All in the Family?
I started doing a google search after I found the thread on "your favorite All in the Family episode" and I came across an All in the Family message board. I was quite surprised to find these types of threads on that type of board. Don't the conservatives realize that AITF was making fun of their kind?

4. Freep-types have a difficult time with satire.
It takes them a while to realize that they're the butt of a joke. Just look at how many liked The Colbert Report until a few of their slightly-smarter dumb buddies pointed it out to them. There was a hilarious thread at FR after the Colbert debut. Those same sort of people don't realize that AITF was also poking fun at racist, RW bigots. They think the show was all about Archie's snappy replies to Meathead.

7. In a country that re-elected Shrub
and 39 percent of them still support him so I guess I shouldn't be surprised

5. in grad school, we studied the show
and there was this HUGE survey done in the 70s, and the surprising result was that the majority of people watching AITF were more likely to be just like Archie, and not change their views...In some weird world, they watched it constantly because they enjoyed having their own racist, fascist viewpoints validated...

8. My father forbade us to watch it.
He thought Laugh-In and Smothers Brothers were subversive, too.
