And her "Ernestine Tomlin" telephone lady routine was a delight to anybody who worked for the old 'phone company.

Re-aired at 2AM so I set up the VCR...
Lots of great clips.
Though they could have picked a better one for 9 to 5...
I loved the location footage of Ernestine in the phone company, making her speech while randomly pressing buttons and shutting down equipment... I wonder if that came from Laugh-In or The Lily Tomlin Show...

6. dang it I missed the first 15 minutes |
|
but I recall her doing a short film(s) for SNL with that scenario.
The 9 to 5 salute was rather lame, imho, but overall it was so sweet to see the younger people pay tribute to her comedic genius.
Also cool to see her LOL at Darrell Hammond's shot at Boosh and merely "smile" at his Clinton dig.

7. Yeah, it was hyped but not given proper attention to... |

Apart from 2 clips - one not funny because people didn't see the full context, and the other was funny but only at the end. I didn't see what the fuss was about, and I've seen the movie dozens of times.
9 to 5 is an awesome movie, but that salute just didn't work. :-(
Also, I dunno if that movie she did with Steve Martin was funny (I've never seen it, where her soul and his are trapped in his body), but did they really have to use a sex scene to drive out the humor? I didn't find the clip from that movie to be very funny. :-( Lily's line about not wanting to do the boss's daughter was indeed funny, but that was all in something that was a 3 minute clip.
Not to criticize though, 90% of the show was hilarious, and if humor can transcend the time it was made in then you know you've got a real winner. And she's a winner.

4. Lily Tomlin Sent Met A Personalized Authographed Photo |
|
The "best wishes to Allen" and the "Lily Tomlin" are all the same handwriting... written in the same session... and identical to other KNOWN examples of her signature that I've found online.
Or... maybe she has a staff of well trained proxy-autographers and my autograph is identical to a "known" example that was actually signed by one of her staff. We'll never know.
But in any case... it's one of my most treasured possessions.
