1. Well now, you KNOW that I will have a comment or two!
As in: What in heck are those structures? I mean, I know they have to do with your work.....

But that doesn't help me much!

:loveya:

2. Look at that gorgeous sky!!
Yep. Deciding to retire there is a great decision, and I'll reaffirm that to Mrs. V.

Here's my question: What are those things? :hi:

5. The closest 'shed' is the GONG Telescope.
National Solar Observatory.

I am part of a project to build replacement shelters for
this worldwide system of solar telescopes.

And, yes, Tucson would be good for you and
Mrs. V.

7. Wow.
I remember the shock and thrill I felt the first time I looked at the sun through my telescope (filtered lens, of course) and saw actual sunspots. WOW! :wow:

:hi: Ptah  Thanks!

8. Did you get a sense that the whole sun was vibrating?
That's what strikes me with any live image of the sun.

10. Moving, certainly... Strange you should say that. I get that idea with
Sirius. That each change in color when it's near the horizon indicates another "bzz" of vibration.

Fascinating things, the stars. :)

12. This particular instrument (GONG)
measures the oscillations in the
energy from the sun, to do some amazing science.

3. Yes.
I've exhausted my imagination about what those container contain. First, I thought, you work at Fort Bragg.

Please help, my brain hurts from wondering what that thing is. Like, you fill the container up with bulk (something) and attach that powered arm thingy and then it rotates a blade inside and chops everything up? Industrial sized food processor?

6. The closest is an operational solar telescope.

The other two are replacement shelters for some of the
other six instruments.
