Anyone infamous graduate from your high school...
Inquiring minds want to know, besides I haven't posted a new copycat in a few days. :)

1. Just me.
Well, and some asshole jocks who got full ride sports scholarships to college and wasted out of them after they got hooked on cocaine, which I have forever found hilarious, because the ones I knew were fucking clueless sports-fuck assholes. HA!

But then, I'm sure you'd be hard-pressed to find any high school in America that doesn't have some amount of sports-assholes getting full ride scholarships then fucking themselves over.

10. And the sad part is that for every asshole who gets a sports scholarship,
a legitimate person who needs the money, and who actually wants an education, gets left out.

14. So true. My niece, one of the smart sports people, got a scholarship
to her school for golf, but it was like $1000. If she were a boy - and the coach told her this - he could have given her close to a full-ride scholarship.

That's fucking bullshit.

21. It's pure bullshit. Schools giving scholarships based on ticket sales.
It's the total antithesis of what college is about.

Speaking personally, I don't think it should be legal for colleges and universities to give scholarships for sports.

I also think that schools need to spin off the sports into their own separate entity - and one could then get a scholarship to be a sports person (but not a student), and the degree will be a Bachelors In Earning Money For My Owner; PLUS they'll have far more time to spend perfecting their athletic ability, which isn't a bad thing at all.

It would be just like an arts or economics major - the major will be sports.

Then there will be integrity and honesty in giving scholarships to kids based on their ability to attract ticket sales and alumni donations from those assholes who feel that they won't give to their alma mater (or any school) unless it has a winning sports team.

22. I will agree, that would return some integrity to the system.
As it is we're teaching how to avoid steroid tests, and accepting bribes from alumni without getting caught.

26. It's not just sexism, there's a racist element too
My school, which was a 95% white public university in California, was trying to figure out how to recruit more minorities, and it was seriously proposed that the school offer athletic scholarships.

'Cause you know, those negroes only go to school to play basketball and football. :eyes:

:eyes:

I've even heard that one from sports defenders here on DU, that we need sports in schools, especially inner city ones, because "for so many of them, sports is their only chance out of the ghetto".

Yeah, well - how about we FUCKING EDUCATE THEM instead?

But one of the people who went to my high school back in the 50s ended up a doomsday cult leader. Hulon Mitchell Jr. He changed his name to Yahweh Ben Yahweh. He was sent to prison, but the judge sentenced him to 18 years for murder and several other crimes because he had apparently done some good in the community. I guess that outweighs murder? Anyway, I just thought it was interesting that a young black man from Kingfisher turned out to be a doomsday cult leader. How fun! LOL

23. There was a girl who came from a neat family
Her sister was a friend of mine. But this girl just wasn't wired right or something. When she was 21, she was busted for fraud. She had been scanning the obituaries and using the names of the recently departed to open up credit accounts. She had a ton of credit cards when she was busted. And she went to federal prison for a long time.

Then another guy who was a friend of mine became a pharmacist and was busted for medicare fraud. He stole several million dollars. He is in prison now.

I didn't know him that well, but he seemed quiet but nice and polite.
He and his wife must have married right out of high school but she didn't go to our school. Anyway, he stabbed he with a kitchen knife. She lived but was severely injured. He was found guilty, but I wasn't sure what his sentence was. I do know that his family wrote a letter to the editor saying that people shouldn't judge their son because no one else knew how much abuse he suffered at the hands of his wife.

45. I have a story about Lenny Bias.....
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 05:31 PM by new_beawr
I was living with three other guys in a house in Silver Spring, MD. One of the guys was a University of Maryland Graduate Assistant assigned to the Men's Basketball team. One of this guy's duties was to help Bias make it to classes. Anyway, after Bias OD'd, the Coach, Lefty Drisell, was trying to make sure everyone had their stories straight, including my housemate. This housemate could perform an uncanny imitation of Coach Drisell. Anyway, Lefty calls and asks to speak with "Coach ____" I respond, that's a good one, man, you do the best Lefty I've ever heard, the voice on the phone says, no young man, this IS Coach Drisell, now can I speak with Coach _____?, (Drisell HATES being called Lefty btw) well, my housemate listens to about another minute of this back and forth and then appears in the Kitchen doorway when I immediately burst out laughing and my housemate is frantically gesturing for me to shut the hell up. Anyway, he gets on the phone with Lefty and that was it.....

Another odd coincidence is that I was housemates with the guy that sold the cocaine to Brian Tribble, Tribble's the guy that gave Bias the Cocaine that killed him. Tribble was also gunned down a few years later. Anyway, this former housemate showed up to the house I was living in with the Graduate Assistant Coach. The former housemate was hitting up EVERYONE he knew for money because he had just been busted by the IRS and had also been nailed with about a half kilo of Cocaine. So, here I am with the Coke Dealer that in all liklihood delivered the drugs that killed Bias, and in the living room watching baseball is Bias' old "minder".....

I'm glad my life is more boring now......

Somehow my 10th grade biology teacher was involved in it, too. He was the basketball coach at Northwestern. It could be that Lefty wanted him to have all the right answers too.

50. Palos Verdes High School Class of 70 Graduates
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 11:15 PM by LibDemAlways
included convicted spy Daulton Lee of "The Falcon and the Snowman" fame who sold government secrets to the Russians in the 1970s to finance his real business - which was selling cocaine and other drugs.

And current repuke Senator George Allen of Virginia who was notorious in high school for spraypainting racist graffiti and papering his car with Confederate flags. Now he's just notorious for being a worthless POS masquerading as a public servant.

By the way, Daulton Lee and George Allen were in the school falconry club together. And in the senior yearbook Allen claimed to have served four years on the student council - which was a lie. He was never involved in student government. What is it with repukes and lying? Even when it's not important and no one is going to care, they still lie.

Oh, and I was in the class too, but I'm not famous or infamous.
