Pet Peeves
We all have them. Little things that others do that just drive us crazy!!

Some of my pet peeves:
The way some people speak... saying 'ya know' and 'basically' all the time.
Extremely low cut jeans with underwear sticking out... gross!
People that lick their fingers and make smacking sounds.

Ok folks, have at it! List your pet peeves.
I figure I annoyed someone just starting this thread. :P

1. excessively "clean" people with glaring, blinding white teeth
who talk loudly on cell phones wherever the fuck they happen to be.

7. Being trapped on the train near a loud cell-phone yapper
Not as distracting when they are nattering away in Mandarin or Vietnamese or something.

If they ever allow cell phones on airplanes I will probably get myself arrested by an air marshall by loudly yelling "shut up! shut up! shut up!" until my seatmate has to end the call. A "my flight just got in -- I'll see you by the drop-off area outside Terminal B in about 15 minutes - I don't have any bags to pick up" is one thing. A 20-minute discusssion of Johnson's incompetence and how much the Snavely deal is going to make is another.

There was a guy in the supermarket the other night talking to a work colleague ("did you see that article in "The Inquirer" about us?....."), and we could hear him 3 aisles over. At one point, both my SO, who is averse to public scenes, and myself, who is not, were standing near him and we both started yelling "BOY!! HE MUST BE REALLY IMPORTANT!! THAT CONVERSATION SOUNDS REALLY IMPORTANT!!! DO YOU THINK HE'S REALLY IMPORTANT??!!" Went right over the yeller's head, of course. What killed me is there were 3-4 other people walking around on cell phones, bothering no one, and we had no idea what they were talking about because they were keeping their voices down to a civilized level.

11. I hate people who use their phones in bookstores
I think of a bookstore like a library. People should keep their voices down.
This woman was yakking on her cell phone about where she and her friend should go that night.... and the volume was up so loud on the phone that I could hear the woman on the other end of the line!!

15. And museums
I was at a gorgeous exhibit of Maxfield Parrish's work at the PA Academy of Fine Arts a few years ago, and someone actually took a call and continued to walk around the galleries while talking. There are big hallways and a staircase he could have adjourned to, but no....

18. And movie theaters
You'd think people would know not to bring their phone into a theater and have conversations. There's even public service films about not doing that. Tell that to the doofus that sat behind me during King Kong.

5. Boy do I ever understand that one!
I've been married for almost 19 yrs. Hubby will let one fly in the house at anytime.
But at least he doesn't laugh about it!
One of these days he'll embarrass himself and fart in public.

3. People who just HAVE to tell you about their digestive systems.
Especially during a meal. You know precisely what I'm talking about. If I wanted to be a gastroenterlogist, I'd have gone to med school.

The new trend towards gruesome footage in TV series promotions. I hadn't watched NBC in a while and was surprised to see all images of dismembered body parts. This is what I've been missing?

Managers who expect subordinates to echo everything they say politically. I work with a couple of people like that. Both are bullies.

4. People who don't seem to know that cars come standard equipped with
turn signals.

People who don't get out of the way for emergency vehicles.
People who abuse animals (fuckers!)
Parents who ignore their screaming children out in public.
People who park in spots that are designated for others (handicap, expectant mothers, etc) and they are clearly not what the spot is for.

I know there are more, but it's the best I could do off the top of my head.

6. And then there are the automobile drivers
that think they are driving an emergency vehicle and everyone should get out of their way!
Where are the cops when you need them? I once got a ticket for going 10 mi over the speed
limit in a 35 mph zone... that's right I was 'speeding' at 45 mph! aaarrgghhh!!

8. True, but I meant people who don't get out of the way of
ambulances or fire trucks. What if it's your spouse/child/parent in the back and needs to get to a hospital immediately? Or what if it's your house burning down?

People are just so damned rude. I think these emergency vehicles should come standard equipped with a battering ram on the front.

10. Absolutely!

I see it all the time. And I hear of soooo many accidents because people refuse to get out of the way for emergency vehicles! I guess they figure what they are doing is more important than the
ambulance or fire truck going to save a life or property!

12. i like to bring my cats to restaurants and put my children outside
You know, just to switch things up. Besides, the cats have such good table manners and Little Timmy is way too slow to do any harm to the birds.

13. Lousy grammar
People who drench themselves in perfume - makes me gag and some people are allergic.

One-uppers. You know what I mean. When you say, "God, I've got a headache!", they reply with, "Oh, I had the WORST headache yesterday - sent me right to the emergency room!" They have to do you one better on everything.

People who ask for advice but then shoot down every piece of it you give them - I have a sister like that.

Loud eaters - makes my skin crawl.

Pet peeve lists. ;)

14. I hate it when someone honks
their horn at me. I know they are saying "hello" but some people must not realize how loud their car horns are. I was walking my dog the other day. Nice, quiet morning. You could hear the leaves rustle. Peaceful. Then all of a sudden a loud honk. We both nearly jumped out of our skin! I hate that!

Poor grammar, bad spelling and overuse of slang.

Message board peeve--not just this one: When someone asks a question or makes a comment and you see a dozen people comment "We already talked about that!" or "How many times does this question have to be asked? Its been asked a million times!" Isn't there such a thing as a new poster? Or maybe someone who isn't logged on 24/7 who would know every single thing that's been discussed? I really hate seeing people jumped on like that.

16. a pet peeve of mine
is people who jump all over someone for asking a question. I see it on DU at times and it just makes me so angry. How are we to educate anyone if we don't 'allow' them to ask questions?

17. Food pushers and the food police...
So tired of folks trying to re-fill my plate and telling me "I'm going to send you home a doggy bag.." full of their offerings. Waiters and other people who pressure me into dessert and second helpings. I'm an insulin dependent Type 1 diabetic who tries really hard to avoid sweets, but folks just don't get it -- or don't want to. Family meals, business luncheons and other occasions where food is offered - they're always PUSHING!
And once they find out I'm diabetic, they think it's their personal job to monitor every piece of food I put into my mouth. Back off, idiot!
And to those who roll their eyes when I order a large diet drink with my large meal; I say "frack off, all of you!"
Too bad I can't give this disease to others for a day ('cause I'm making a list you you idiots - and it's a LONG list)...

22. Children NOT seatbelted, in carseat or
any other type of restraint. I swear, I think the next one I see I will get the license plate number, make of car and call it in to the cops. More than anything I cannot stand to see people be so careless with their kids.
