Do two things. First, rinse it thouroughly with water. I know this sounds counter intuitive, but by doing so you will rinse away the sugars before they have a chance to crystalize. After than, immediately soak every last cubic millimeter with WD-40 to get rid of the water. Allow a couple of days for the WD-40 to evaporate thoroughly, and you should be good to go.
