A mom at school called me 'Satanic'. |
|
I was talking with a few friends of mine after the bell rang. The buses had all not arrived yet, so we were being kept back. My saxophone in one hand, my binder in another, my friend and I got on the discussion of music.
We both dissed the same thing: Religious Pop Music. We were laughing about it. I'm no heavy-metal fan or anything like that, but the whole Jesus Pop Music is just lost on me (Sorry if I offended anyone!)
We keep on talking when a woman marches over to us. She's wearing a suit outfit, like she's just gotten off work. She has that horrible fake brown hair with fake yellow highlights, and coped with pink eyeshadow up to her eyebrows, she's quite a sight to behold. I happen to notice her kid is one I'm not friends with, and the car is a massive hummer.
"I could help but notice that you two were discussing music?" She asks.
"Yeah," Says my friend, "Your point?"
"Well, I would like to talk to you about your view on religous pop. From the looks of you, you could all use some of it. The music only talks about love. Jesus loves you, why can't you love him?"
"Yeah... well.... some of my music is about love." I say, pointing to my shirt. It proudly displays 'The Who' in bright bold letters.
"Your music is satanic, as is yours." She points to my friends Pink Floyd sweatshirt, "You should both be ashamed of yourselves."
We all stood in silence. About a minute later, I calmly say:
"Is this a bad time to tell you I'm a democrat?"

Frankly, I have better things to do than harass my over-stressed mother with things like this. Besides, it's fun to talk smack to freepers who harass me in school. Nothing better.... well, maybe warm socks from the dryer, but you know what i mean.
Hey, BW! I haven't seen you around lately. Mucho hugs!

Y'see, if you spurt all over your screen enough times, you'll wind up shorting it out and you'll need a new one. We're only trying to drum up lots of new business...
Don't you just love faux Christians? The ones who know that everything's satanic?
As for your Christian adult friend...go get a copy of The Addams Family and start doing your hair and makeup exactly like Morticia Addams. Then go to a party store and get some black shawls. Go to school dressed like that a few times...if the fundie woman starts screaming and runs away really fast, you know it worked. Wench wants satanic? We'll give her satanic!

Now, of course, you need to delve deep into real Satanic music. Burn some black metal CDs from a friend or something and leave them on this lady's car. Find out who she is and write "To <her name> from Jesus" on them. I'd like to see her face if she ever heard my iTunes library! :D

You DO know that ABBA was a plot by Swedish Communists, don't you? Sweden sent the band here to corrupt our youths into a godless, and- yes- Satanic, society. In fact, if you listen to the song "Waterloo" backwards, you will hear a Satanic chant. This is ALL true- my friend heard it on Rush's show!
See? I can prove to you that this is legitimate. Just by typing this, I now have "Fernando" stuck in my head! All part of the plot- thanks!
(In a serious question- did she look like Dana Carvey's "Church Lady" character?) And as for your response? :yourock:

38. Kids in school swore I worshipped Satan because I loved Led Zeppelin |
|
This was the early 80s but I went to a rural school and it was filled with fundies and other nutjobs. They figured anyone who listened to Zeppelin had to be worshipping Satan because of the backward fills supposively found on some of the LZ tracks. (hell, there are backward messages found on John Denver albums or so they say)
Our school had no minorities so they had to find other people to pick on and figured that was a good enough reason. Thing is I was a pretty good Christian - went to church every week, volunteered for Church activities and even went to church camp every year til I graduated. Even my college was a Methodist College (but it wasn't a fundie school - you had to take either 2 religion classes, 2 philosphy or 1 of each before you graduated).
This is why I believe Church does not belong in school. All it really does is create another divide between the 'believers' and the 'non-believers' (which is anyone who doesn't religion exactly like they do!)

I'm a Catholic Satanist who was born saved and is in good with Lucifer. I've got it covered, dont you think so?" At that point she couldnt even speak, just sputtered, turned red and pointed at me, then stormed off. Its fun to mess with the heads of fundies.

 Go figure. There's no convincing her otherwise...I tried. I love my mom, the wacky fundy, but I'm still perplexed.

One time when I was lobbying for stem cell a priest for life actually said I deserved yopd because I want to sacrifice babies for my own needs. I've also been called an embryo farmer and a toddler killer by these whack jobs.

Some fucking people!
I guess I am one of the cool moms. I take my teenaged son to rock concerts and introduced him to Pink Floyd, The Who, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc.

I mean, there's rock music, and then there's stuff that's really out there. If you think Floyd is satanic, you've got serious fun issues!

when I was your age because my pastor said they were sinful. It didn't work. We now have several hundred CD's of all musical genres, and I left the church anyway. In my opinion, evil isn't in the music we listen to, the books we read or the television or movies we watch. My ideas about evil are much different today than they were then. Evil, for instance, is a self-proclaimed Christian who signs a piece of legislation that is now causing senior citizens to choose between heat and prescriptions. Dinner and prescriptions. Living inside and the prescriptions they may need to stay alive.
I'm only sorry I wasn't standing there when that woman approached you. I'd ask her why she didn't remove the beam from her own eye before trying to remove the sliver from yours*. I'd also ask her if she'd read the verse about working out her own salvation in fear and trembling*.
Ignore her.
Julie *New Testament verses. I'm too lazy to look up the exact location.
p.s. My favorite Who songs are probably "My Generation" and "Love Reign O'er Me".

the drummer for my first band (a weird mixture of 2 nerdy kids w/ instruments they kinds new how to play, and 2 "eccentric" kids who knew one chord)had to quit because his Fundie Mom (who watched Ernest Angley every Sunday on TV) thought I was, in her words, "A Faggot Devil Worshiper". I was neither, but I wore it like a badge of honor because of who it came from.
The whole tragedy of the situation was that the rest of the band wouldn't let me immediately change the name of the band from Nebula to Faggot Devil Worshiper, but I've gotten over it:)
I've read your posts, and you're jake with me. Forget the Fundie Mom; she's not worth it..

76. Off topic, but I just have to ask you about your music |
|
Are you and your friends into bands like The Who and Pink Floyd?
I am very interested to hear about how you developed your musical tastes if you are. This is a subject that really facinates me.
My husband and I are in our 30s, we went to high school in the 80s. (We didn't know each other at the time). I was into all the 80s alternative bands (the Smiths, the Cure, et. al.). I had absolutely no interest in what I considered to be "dinosaur rock" like Pink Floyd.
My husband was into the metal scene, like Ozzy Ozbourne and stuff like that, so somehow he managed to get exposed to more "classic" rock.
It's been almost 20 years since I graduated high school. So what I considered to be "moldy oldies" are even older now! (Along with what I grew up with!)
So I'm just wondering, what keeps that music alive? How come young kids aren't into bands that are just coming out now?
I'm not criticizing you at all. I think it's good that kids be aware of pop music history. I just wonder how it happens because it didn't happen for me at all.

83. Most of the stuff my parental units listen to, I listen to... |
|
but I get tastes for bands all on my own. The (mainstream) music that is coming out today doesn't have a feeling, doesn't have a message.
I am never swayed buy others. Maybe you were, or it might be that different kinds of music just weren't available to you.

I am so totally with you on Jesus Rock, Jesus Pop, etc. I am one of those folks who wants a liberal theology in a very traditional setting. Fortunately, I have this in my church! or else I would not go there...
If the youth want to use it in their stuff, play it, whatever that is fine just KEEP IT OUT OF MY WORSHIP SERVICES!!!!!
...sorry...we now return to our regularly scheduled rantings.

85. Brought to you by the same people who say this: |
|
"What has the government done to protect us? Thousand of Terror plots have been ended before they even got off the ground in the past 5 years. You don't hear about them in the newspaper when they never happen.
how many dollars per zealot? Who cares. money means nothing when you're talking about saving lives. It's sad that people like you are more concerned about how much money is being spent than about saving lives."
Now, how many ways can we refute this (with sources)?
