Meanwhile, this same column got picked up by a Web blog called demo-craticunderground.com. A blog is, of course, reporting without any oversight at all. In fact, I'm not certain that it is legal for this site to use my column without permission. What am I, content provider to the slacker world? Still, my stuff drew several immediate responses.

Perfectly legal, Mr. Bogert — unless reprinted in its entirety. And even then, copyright laws are open to interpretation, as newspapers (including their web sites) reserve only first-printing rights to their content.

In addition, DU is not a "blog," it's a forum. Most people who've used the internet for more than a few months understand the difference. The only things that are "reported" here are those linked from news sites. The rest is opinion.

Finally, singing the praises of the newspaper for which one writes is amateurish and best left to publishers, who care little about good journalism.

But, what do I know? I was a columnist only as an adjunct to my job as a city editor.

P.S.: How'd you like some debris from the "slacker world" shoved up your ass? Trust me; it can be arranged.

I cancelled my subscription to them years ago because their editorials, etc.. drove me nuts. They ALWAYS endorse right wing candidates and issues during election time etc..
