I went to parent-teacher conferences tonight.
Apparently my son talks too much in class. I don't know where he would have learned such disruptive behavior! I also felt a bit bad upon leaving, as I realized we had well exceeded our alotted time for the meeting, and another couple had to wait in the hall. We would've been out on time except I... yeah...kept talking too much. It's a disease.

1. My daughter does too.
She disrupts the entire class. Turns out she finishes her work, gets up and decides that she wants to do something else.
Oh well. I guess it could be worse. She could be the kid that eats glue or suckerpunches the other kids.

2. Hah! Apparently my kid likes to make ?"lobster gestures"? to the class
when the teacher is turned around. I don't even know what that means. I agree though, there are worse things.

4. He must be clicking his hands together.
I don't know what it means.
My daughter's teacher didn't like the conference very much. I informed her that we would work on the talking and the disruptions. I also informed her that she's only five so no one can expect miracles and that I'm just happy that she is able to get along w/ everyone and doesn't treat anyone differently (as some of her classmates already do). She says that she needs to be raised w/ strict discipline, I said that she needs to learn to be compassionate to everyone.
Guess who is going to win this argument?

9. I was the same way, as a kid. I almost got kicked out of G/T, because
I could not shut my mouth. In third grade it was really bad. My parents got phone calls from the teacher.

11. I received detentions that I didn't even deserve in jr. high!
If someone was talking in class the teacher automatically assumed it was me. Next thing I knew she would slam that stupid pointer on the table(science class) and yell out "Miss C____! Looks like another day of detention!"
I was a talker but not nearly as bad as my old science teacher thought I was. First few times I argued back but quickly gave up when I realized she would add more time on for detention.

3. Conferences almost always ran long when I was going to them.
At least you're not taking custody of your kid from the police in an alley.

12. Thanks. I hope you don't have too many more unpleasant scenarios
of that sort. That would break my heart. I'm fearful of the teenage years.

13. Mark Twain had advice for raising boys.
Close them in a barrel and feed them through the bung hole. At age eighteen comes to momentous decision on whether or not to put in the bung.

14. I think my son would've rolled down a hill in the barrel, already!
But it's timeless advice, nonetheless.:toast:

8. Would you like to borrow some of my tight lip?
 I'm definitely a "need to know" kind of talker.

10. I think I would pop a vein.
I talk to EVERYONE who is remotely friendly. It's probably in part a function of my being home with kids all day, though. You get a little "off" without significant adult contact.
