What was your first school detention for?
I hit Brian G____ in the head with my beret, in the recess line. Some asswipe narked on me. I also got time-outs in Kindergarten for chasing and kissing Eric Somethingorother, for hiding on top of a tall file cabinet, and for poking people during nap time.

Whaddayaknow, I'm still foul mouthed and lazy. :D Guess the detentions didn't work.

5. It starts early!
:scared:
I always lost my homework. I could be holding it one second, and the next, I had lost it. I'm still that way, as well. I'm very flighty.

I also have the foul-mouth curse. My Dad curses enough to make a person blush, and my Mom swears, but not quite as heinously. There was never any hope for me.

I did get a paddling in grade school once for throwing a rock at the school, though.

3. Probably talking.
Wait-it was for reading in class. I was in third grade and had finished my math work. I got a book out of my desk and started reading it. My teacher took the book away and informed me that it was not time to read. I showed her my math homework and she said that I could do some more problems since I had finished the first set. I didn't think it was fair and asked her why the others didn't have to do them.
I got a detention for that. I had to stay after and write an essay about why I should use my time wisely.
I'd forgotten about that.

If you got you math done that fast, I'm guessing you didn't need extra practice, huh? That is simply unjust. Unjust!

46. They didn't want to mess w/ someone who finished first.
That's just the way things went at that time. The teacher was close to retirement (I think she retired the next year) and didn't want to mess w/ anyone.
Besides, she knew if I finished my book I would ask to go back to the library. I spent a lot of time in that library.

6. I never got one either
Though in high school I did get called to the vice principal's office twice for smoking on campus.

The second time, it occurred to me that there was a dichotomy in the rules: If you were sitting in your car in this particular parking lot, you were off campus. But if you were smoking in your car in the same parking lot, you were smoking on campus.

Miss Drewes didn't appreciate my grasp of logic.

8. Not walking 3 mi to school when I missed the bus and had a broken pelvis.
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 09:53 PM by Rabrrrrrr
Though that detention I actually never had to serve, due to the INSANE phone call my mom made to the school.

(though my pelvis was no longer broken at the time, it had just healed, and the doctor said that I was not to be on my feet any longer than necessary to get from class to class (and no stairs; elevator only) - I called into the school, like a good citizen, to say that I missed the bus and wouldn't be in and they told me I'd have detention; when mom came home, I told her, and she went FUCKING BALLISTIC on the fascists in charge of my junior high).

That moment (and a few others dealing with the school with my injuuries) was when I learned that most authority figures are very small people inside, that most teachers are useless self-centered fearful incompetent pieces of shit, and that our education system couldn't give a fuck about education and is far more interested in making us pliant, rules-following sheep fit for corporate consumption and republican/nazi patriotic flag-waving bullshit.

Thank God for that moment!

word-search puzzles every chance he got. He was deathly afraid of any of us being unoccupied for a millisecond. He also said, "What the H ?" all the time. Like we didn't know what the "H" stood for. We were twelve years old.:eyes:

30. Dumbasses.
While I do not believe fully in the old canard that "those who can, do; those who can't, teach", I will agree that about 80% of the time with teachers that is true.

And when you get to the public schools, that goes much higher, because so many of the truly good teachers go to the private schools where they earn more.

Thank God, though, I *did* have a few teachers who were truly capable and wonderful and felt it their calling to teach in public schools and try to dispell the republican-created-education-systenm bullshit.

35. Yep. I had some wonderful teachers along the way, as well.
I've actually heard from a few of them in the years since I graduated. Kind things some of them said to me still resonate, many years later. The good ones really can have an amazing amount of influence. I'm ashamed of how our government regards them.

13. An attempted bloodless coup of the afternoon kindergarten class.
Our morning class was trying to consolidate power and force the teacher to bargain for economic benefits. We figured staging a coup and overthrowing the elitist afternoon class would be a good way to jump start negotiations. Sadly, it turned out pretty damn bad. I was detained indefinitely, with no trial, no access to a lawyer, until a representative of my choosing was able to repatriate me back to my home block, after which I was tortured at the hands of my own people....the horror...the horror...
