Is This To Much To Ask to Get a Job??????


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Embody the Alaska Spirit and conduct oneself with Integrity, Resourcefulness, Professionalism and Caring
- Uncompromising dedication to safety
- Able to relocate to any of our flight attendant bases: Los Angeles, or Seattle
- At least 21 years of age and able to serve alcohol
- Able to reach 80 vertical inches
- Able to swim 90 feet assisted with a life vest
- Posses a high school diploma or equivalent
- At least 2 years of customer or community service experience
- Non-user of all nicotine products for at least the last six months (requirement may vary depending upon location)
- Flexible to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- US citizen or registered alien with the legal right to accept employment


- Able to attend 5-6 weeks of unpaid training in Seattle if selected


- Able to demonstrate the physical ability to perform the duties of a flight attendant
- Must possess adaptability to perform a variety of duties, dealing with people, and performing effectively under stress

1. No, Not If The Applicant Is Ok With It.
I'm glad they put it blantantly in the description, so it doesn't come as a surprise to an otherwise hopeful applicant. Many jobs have unpaid training, but a flight attended job is a pretty good gig. I wouldn't consider that absolutely worth it.

2. Yes, especially considering it only requires
a high school diploma.

This would mean most people applying are not the type who have a lot of extra dough to hang around unpaid for 6 weeks, then wait probably close to another month before getting their first paycheck.

3. Sign of a bad economy
Employers start getting more and more demanding about potential employees. Despite "adjusted" rosy government figures, the jobless pool is quite large, and employers can do a lot of fishing to find candidates willing to jump through hoops.

5. All the airlines do that
A friend went to work for Southwest, and they did the same thing. They have far more applicants than positions, and a lot of people who are "selected" never complete the training.
