but still i love some of the scenes. Like when he disarmed the punk with the knife gave the knife back to the punk and punched him out. I also liked the sledgehammer fight between cody and raven at the end.

43. Good Catch Dave
The whole thing appears to be taking place in a time warp, where every period from the old west to the 80's is covered at some point or other. I get a kick out of the old bus that the doowop band had. I love those old busses.

65. I think that was the point
This was Walter Hill's urban rock and roll fantasy movie. It was marketed as some kind of counterculture futuristic post-Reagan acid-flashback fantasy flick. I remember in the weeks before it opened in 1984, NYC was PLASTERED with posters for "Streets of Fire" on every construction site, vacant storefront and abandoned car in sight. This got quite a bit of attention.

If you suspended reality while watching it, the movie was quite good. The music was GREAT! ("I can dream about you!! If I can't hold you tonight... " Unfortunately, the critics didn't get it; it bombed at the box office, and Hill, director of another cult classic, "The Warriors" went on to a more successful, but less adventurous career.

So it goes...

it was a blend of the retro and the new, the intention being that it couldn't be pinned to any specific time.

29. Guess it's turning into a cult classic
From Wikipedia:
Since its release, the film has achieved a cult status. It is shown at midnight madness theaters alongside films like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. It has grossed over a hundred million dollars, making it a commercial success. It is heralded as one of the best "good-bad movies" of all time, and is somewhat of a camp classic (in the vein of Valley of the Dolls.)

76. I work at Warner Bros. and we did the "dailies" on this movie.
There was that one scene where David Arquette says something like "I will bust you!". There were about 10 different takes with different lines. Our greeting around work for awhile was, "I will rule you!"

I thought the movie was pretty damned funny.

92. Plan 9 is delightfully bad!
Criswell! Cardboard tombstones! Lugosi died during filming, so he was replaced by a guy running around with a cape held up to cover his face.

Other Ed Wood classics: "Glen or Glenda," an explotation film with earnest overtones about a transexual. "Bride of the Monster," also with Lugosi and, the immortal, Tor Johnson. And "Orgy of the Dead," a VERY odd, if somewhat dull, movie complete with strippers AND Criswell.

35. Buddy!!!!
That's the greatest bad movie ever made! I will watch it everytime i see it on TBS or any of the million movie channels i get on cable.

My wife once offered to buy me the DVD and i said NO!!!! The attraction is like that of a bad accident. I want to watch it when i see it's on, but i don't want to be involved in it! Owning it would be like being involved in that bad accident.

But, boy, when he busts that table with that guy's nose, i mean: How cool is that? And then the absurd stuff like driving a monster truck through a guy's car dealership. That can't ever really happen, but it makes the movie great in it's horribleness.

38. So much shit in that movie can ONLY happen in a place like Jasper.
One of those heeyuck cities where one warlord controls everything, just waiting for that lone outsider to come in and challenge his armies. Did this city even HAVE police or were they too afraid of the mulletude hosses?

I know what you mean about not wanting to own it. This movie is ONLY to be watched on cable or library VHS (because what library would actually carry this movie on DVD?); that's the intrigue of it all.

My favorite part is where Marshall "I used to FUCK guys like you in prizzin!" Teague starts doing his Oklahoma martial arts mulletude shit in the bar with Patty Swayze and before they can get into it, 7000 year old Gazarra fires his gun. WHOTTA chump! Let these two mullets beat each others asses. It's like a teaser to where he pulls his larynx out and sends 'em sailing.

111. Hey, "Bachelor Party" has some honest laughs in it
The bit with the guy who's emotionally unstable screaming at the Shirley Temple movie and trying to cut his wrists with an electric razor (Tom Hanks: "Well, at least now your wrists will be kissably soft") always fracture me. And the scene with the arrows being fired into the wall between Hanks and Zmed is great.

I liked Tom Hanks more back when he was a bit of a wise-acre, in the 80's and early 90's. Now he seems to be Our Modern Jesus, and he's not nearly as much fun.

123. Yes, there are good, honest laughs in Bachelor Party
"You're an asshole; wait, an immature asshole. And that's fine. But you're marrying my daughter, and my concern is that my grandchildren are going to be little assholes."

"Wait honey, this is legal now -- we're married!"

"We're gonna have lots of kids right away; in fact, there's this 17-year-old Korean girl I've had my eye on..."

It makes me laugh, but it's still a terrible movie.

mostly because it blew up the frustrating neighborhood I used to live in, in Los Angeles. The volcano in the movie erupted in the park between Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Page Museum. Next to the La Brea Tar Pits.

Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 07:19 PM by DanCa
It was about a troup of knights jousting on motorcycle sort of like a motorized midevil times. Than everything starting to go to hell when they became coroporate. The movie is about three hours. What I dont like about it is that it felll apart a little bit in the middle. Note if you like motorcycle crash scenes this is the movie for you.

with quite a few other people. I've only seen it once, when it was first released and I've wondered if I'd be able to tell which one he was if I saw it again.

That movie certainly has a cult following, which I think would have really pleased him.

It's one of those movies billed as a Jackie Chan movie even though he's barely in it in a supporting role. It's an incredible mishmash of historical inaccuracies, insane characters, and genre movie piled upon genre movie. Where else can you see a chinese guy in a white tuxedo being chased by hopping vampires?

99. Dr. T and the Women.
A friend of mine (a snooty film-critic type) made me go see it in the theater right when it came out (I have no idea why ). He was always trying to further my "cinema" education and would act horrified when I expressed the desire to see something like Shanghai Noon.

Five minutes into the movie I realized it was awful. I looked at my "film-critic" friend and he looked absolutely livid. So I spent the rest of the movie ogling Richard Gere and enjoying some well-deserved schadenfreude.

112. Yes, but Laura Dern is magnificent, as is Shelly Long
Dern goes through the entire movie wearing the most INSANE outfits--Texas idea of high-class, complete with giant hats--and crocked out of her mind, and she's a joy. And Shelly Long does the best work of her career since "Cheers," which is saying something.

100. I have a terrible penchant for bad films.
I particularly like the ones where some group (typically disgrunted former Soviet Army) steal a nuclear bomb and then nearly blow it up.

A disaster film which starts with an argument between divorced man and woman, with lots of tension involving the woman's new husband - you know full-well that he's going to be the hero and this will be his reconciliation with the family.
