How egotistical is Steve Martin? |
|
I just saw another trailer for his remake of "The Pink Panther." First he thinks he can remake Spencer Tracy movies (Father of the Bride), and now he thinks he can do a better job than Peter Sellers?

And a hell of a lot more pleasant than Peter Sellers (I love Peter Sellers' work but he really was an ass). Steve Martin is also quite the Renaissance man, and a thoroughly nice dude.

3. I don't think remakes necessarily mean |

actors/directors think they can do better. It might well be a case of admiring the original and wanting to pay a sort of homage to it by bringing it to a new audience.
That said, I stopped paying attention to Steve Martin a long time ago simply because I did find him annoyingly egotistical. To borrow a line from one of his own stand-up bits, I did indeed "get sick of Steve."
He hosted a Monty Python quasi-documentary called "Parrot Sketch Not Included" and in introducing it seemed to lavish dripping praise on the Pythons. Then he said, "But enough about me."
