Payton Manning, Gloating, schadenfreude, day 4
Its a beuatiful day, despite the rain and wind, its a beautiful day, all is right with the world (except Bush as president and republican control of congress, of course).

Its a beautiful day because Payton Manning choked again, establishing himself as the chokingest choker in the history of choking. Never could beat the Florida Gators, never could win a big game. He's clearly a congenital choker.

And he can shove those offensive commercials where he cheers for accountants and other working people straight up his ass. I hate them. they are profoundly arrogant, the premise of the humour is that he is a so special and wonderful star and they are ordinary people, haha, how funny the star would want the autograph of an ordinary person. He plays a game, and he chokes, who is he to condescend like that. F him. Choking choker. Choking dog.

1. stop mincing words - how do you really feel?
Just kidding - I couldn't agree more. I was so glad that spoiled whiner got what he deserved and he took it like a true Republican - blame your offensive line. Er, Peyton, Mr. Genius, sir, don't you pride yourself on prancing up to the line and calling out the blitzes, protections and plays? Wouldn't that make it your fault, sir? What a drama queen. bwah hah hah hah hah

3. He's not worth spelling his name correctly
I suggest a new spelling: P8ton. It's a synonym for spoiled jackass.

8. Choketon McChokanning
Since when was NFL quarterback an inherited title?

How many quialified talented kids never got a shot because they happened to play on the same teams as Manning, Sims, and the rest of the "legacy" qbs?

10. Huh?
Ever seen Jim Sorgi (Colts backup qb) play? Ever HEARD of Jim Sorgi? You're delusional if you think he's better than the "legacy qb".

29. Sorgi doesn't exist to the Colts...
Spent time over the holidays trying to buy something/anything with Jim Sorgi's name on it for my brother. Sorgi's his hero: "He's like me - gets paid for sitting around and doing nothing..."
Sorgi's getting rusty, sitting around waiting for Peyton to get injured, so look for a trade...

32. Hey if the Colts don't want Sorgi
let him come to Baltimore and the Ravens - the gods know we need a decent QB - not one who can only play well when his job is on the line.

4. actually, I like those ads
they basically make fun of the entire concept of being an obssesive fan, when adults act like children around someone who simply plays a game for a living. We idolize sports stars, why not waitresses or stockboys? The simplest part of the humour is 'why would a star want a normal person's autograph" the more complex part is "why the hell would anyone want someone's autograph, coming to my job and yelling at me is just like going to the Olive Garden and yelling at the busboy" it pokes fun at the entire facade of professional sports.

9. I like the commercial as well
I always found it enjoyable in a goofy sort of way especially since all the workers come off as slightly put out by this "fan".

22. The best part of the ad
is at the oil change, when he yells "Charlie" into the bullhorn, then turns to the guy beside him and says, almost apologetically, "You're good, too." That has the bite of reality, the condescension of the autograph hound who's after the "big star."

All that being said, Peyton Manning has shat upon the image he successfully created with that spot.

Anybody wanna bet it goes away pretty quickly now?

5. Well, his offensive line did SUCK
I mean, the Steelers were all over him. I saw that just watching the game. People are more pissed that he said it than anything else.

Let's not forget this is a professional sport, where people are traded around like meat, so all of this righteous "team-first" bullshit is exactly that.

6. Peyton
Peyton played at the University of Tennessee. Not only could he not beat Florida he never did win a National Championship despite playing behind one of the most talented teams in all of college football. In a strange twist the year AFTER he left the University of Tennessee did win a National Championship behind the leadership of the soon to be NFL legend Tee Martin.

11. Couldn't get the Heisman either...
I believe that went to Charles Woodson from my beloved Meeecheegan!

Manning whined all year after that. "B-but, that's why I came back to play my senior year!"

23. Hines Ward
IMHO Ward should have won the Heisman that year. Much more valuable player and made much more of an impact on games.

Just my opinion....and yes I am a Buckeye fan but I SWEAR that has nothing to do with it.

16. Well, this is the deal.
I work in the non profit world and whenever I see someone who gives back as much as Peyton Manning does, it gives me a warm, fuzzy glow. Mainly because you would be astonished at people who donate nothing, ever.

21. That's a great link
I especially love the alternate quotations for old P8ton.

"I'm trying to be a good teammate here … so I'll try to imagine what it's like to be imperfect."

"I'm trying to be a good teammate here … so I'm going to buy my liquored-up, idiot kicker an entire case of vodka."

"I'm trying to be a good teammate here … so I'll consider retaining Tony Dungy as my associate head coach next season."

"I'm trying to be a good teammate here … so I'm taking the whole team on tour with Kenny Chesney."

"I'm trying to be a good teammate here … so I won't ask my daddy to get my offensive line traded."

"I'm trying to be a good teammate here … so next year I might even run a play or two that my offensive coordinator calls."

"I'm trying to be a good teammate here … so I'm going to let Tee Martin start for me in the playoffs from now on."

"I'm trying to be a good teammate here … but instead I'll just be myself."

26. I hate those commercials!
They are so very condescending to everyone, i'm surprised there is not an uproar over them. The irony of it is, if Peyton couldn't play football he would be doing one of those jobs.

28. It amazes me people seem to love being condescended to
Our society has so bought into the cult of celebrity, I suppose most people would feel honored to let Peyton the choking choker pee on them.

You really have a problem if you cannot see the condescension, the inherent, overarching premise that its amusing that someone who is a god would be a "fan" to mere mortals.

27. What about the commercials where kids are playing with a Manning cutout?
then he comes to life when they give him a Gatorade or whatever.

In the interest of safety, shouldn't the cutout be labeled "Caution: May present choking hazard, especially when used outdoors in temperatures under 32 F. Do not attempt to rush, sack, or otherwise harass the cutout as this may present an additional choking hazard."
