Most bizarre "spam" I've ever received:
Totally unsolicited:

"The Nismo Challenge has reached his goal at the Lisboa-Dakar 2006

Six cars at the start, three at the finish. 50% of the Nismo Challenge competitors reached Dakar and the Rose Lake. A very satisfactory result, considering that Pep Busquets retired for medical reasons and not due to any sporting incidents. Overall, only 30% of competitors entered in the 2006 Dakar reached the capital of Senegal.

On the pure sporting side, Christian Lavieille, who finished in the lead of this first round of the Challenge, finished in 20th position overall. A fine performance with a T1 car that is extremely close to the production model. Christian Lavieille was very happy with his result and with these two weeks of racing, admits that he particularly appreciated the Nismo Challenge and especially the « Spirit of Nismo », synonymous with conviviality and sporting behaviour :
« I am very pleased with this result, as to reach Dakar with the Nissan Patrol in such a good position confirms that the vehicle is competitive and reliable I must thank my navigator Marc Bartholomé for his daily work, as most probably without him we would have retired during the marathon stage at Labé. Marc worked until nearly 6 am to repair and service the car. Thanks also to the team on our T4 truck, which played a wonderful role as our St Bernard. And how can we possibly thank the mechanics, who sacrificed their precious sleep to allow us to set off every day with ‘fresh’ cars, as well as the organisation of the Challenge, most especially Brice Fabry, the Team Manager, for his welcome and his attention. During my sporting career, I have rarely met such professionals as those involved in the Nismo Challenge. Well done to all for the convivial atmosphere and the spirit of helpfulness which was evident among the competitors. It was an extremely interesting experience, on both the personal and sporting fronts. We proved that by looking after the car, you can get a good result, even with a car like this. »

Second in the classification of this first round Toni Manresa and 48th overall, who achieved his own Challenge thanks to consistency and perseverance:
« For us, the 2006 Dakar started back in August when we met Nismo. I am very pleased to have been able to take part in this adventure with friends. It was during our training course in Morocco that we were able to build up this excellent atmosphere which became a source of strength during the race. During the rally, our team put in a lot of effort to stay in the race, and we had two particularly difficult stages. The car suits me well, and the mechanics did excellent work every evening. If I got to Dakar, it was not just thanks to my own effort, but to those of the whole team. Without the Team, you can’t do it. The Challenge is a very promising concept, and I think this Dakar was a good start. I would like to thank Christian Lavieille who has become a friend. Each time I asked his advice, he replied kindly, and I must admit his advice was well worth the while. My hopes for next year : that all six cars should reach the Rose Lake… "

And it goes on for four more paragraphs.

:wtf:

1. their strategy is
they figure that if you actually read all the way through, your mind will be goo. At the end, there's probably a few sentences telling where to send all your money

4. Possible explanation
If you have HTML turned off, then this might be the underlying text. The reason for it is to get past any spam filter you might have. They just copied-and-pasted text from a sports story to get past them. I've occasionally received emails like this in the past.

If, OTOH, you have HTML turned on, then you wouldn't see the text at all, but rather some fantastic offer that you normally see in spam emails.

(IIRC)
