The nearest I've been was looking round a Police station which was having an open-day.

Also the only official contact I've had with the Police was as a witness to a road-accident (non-fatal thankfully), which simply involved giving a short statment to an officer at the scene, and completing a form which was posted to me later.

Bloody heel, it makes my life sound horrifically boring.....

When i was a kid, (16) i got in a fight and was taken to police headquarters until my dad got there. But, no cell. No holding room. Just "Sit in that chair until your dad gets here." So, no jail, ever.

When i was in high school, one of my best friends was the vice-warden of Stateville. (One of Illinois' most high security facilities.) We went over there a couple of times for tours. I think my friend's dad used it as a "scared straight" thing. I wasn't headed for a criminal career anyway, but it is a VERY SCARY PLACE!

To raise money people had to contributed to my bail money to get out. But it wasn't a real prison and I could have broken out of there on my own free will if I wanted to!

38. Only because I was a 1st offender and got a diversion.

I was young and stupid and after shoplifting a few times without getting caught I got arrogant.... and caught. Scared the shit out of me. Due to being so scared as I was handcuffed and all that, plus the class they made me take for the diversion, I never did it again.
(The class was about the cycle of shoplifting, how when people steal it makes the prices higher which in turn makes more people tempted to shoplift. I don't know how true that all is, but I took it to heart.)
