Need "How To" help! Upload personal avatar??? Instructions, Please!

Keep getting the message that I don't own the acatar. Am using one that is in my photobucket account. Should I be using the one directly from my hard drive? WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

And any help in doing this with instructions would be ever so much appreciated!

from a free avatar site, but am using the photobucket to display in ths posting:

It's 12KB in size on my HD disc.

and I get this message when trying to uplad it on DU:

16. Downloaded and thanks...but...

how to upload it? When I click on the upload link in profile, I get an error message. Is there a sequence I need to do? Does the personal/125432<gif|jpg> go before or after my pic, does it need an additional \mark? Do I use PROPERTIES from the pic pn my hard drive, and if so what part? Should I quit DU and relog on?

You first go into >---Options, then >---Edit your profile

Then under 'Avatar image', choose 'upload your own', which gives you this window:



Browse your HD for the file, make sure you check the 'GIF-box' and hit upload. It'll give you something like personal/199943.gif

Put this into the box next to your 'Avatar images', like here:

backed out, killed all temp files/cookies, relogged on and went the IE. Was in AOL, and I think that may have been the biggest problem...except without your help and the .gif reduction you did for me, this would not have been possible!

and EarlG told me how to fix it (or maybe it was elad?)! It has something to do with AOL being a proxy. :shrug:

21. Are you using AOL?

If so, it won't let you upload. Try opening Explorer and doing it from that page rather than through the AOL window.

I had the same problem months ago. I tried for days until an admin told me that AOL was the culprit! :shrug:
