*Third* power failure today
And it's just a little bitty storm.

It gets to the point where you don't even bother re-setting the clocks. :grr:

I swear, this jerkwater town has tinsel for its electrical infrastructure.

1. Are you in NY?
We lost our power today, three times- due to rain.

2. Did you get the hail?
The band that went through the SF East Bay this morning had a lot little hail pellets.

3. Is this normal?
Once during a storm, my power kept flikering on and off. I stepped outside and saw sparks coming from a tree. Apparently the blowing branches had rubber the wires that passed through it bare, and they were shorting out, thus the sparks and flickering. Might look out for that.

7. Pretty much, yeah
During the big storm a couple weeks ago (winds up to like 60 mph), the power also went out three times in one day.

Really, the infrastructure here is just bad. Power failures are common, even when the weather is nice. I don't know if it's just old or if the town outgrew it, or a combination of those.

Don't even get me started on the sewage system. It's so bad the state fined the city $650,000 and imposed a building moratorium three years ago. It still hasn't been lifted.

5. Mine went out twice last week
Once in the afternoon, and then again in the middle of the night, causing me to miss an appointment. :grr: From now on, I'm also setting my cell phone alarm.

8. I have many, many "power" failures each day.
At least my electricity works, though. :silly:

9. People in Iraq Have Been Living Through Mutliple Power Failures
for three years going. Freedom is on the march, but not electricity.

17. I've heard from several sources
that in Baghdad and other Iraq metropoli there's about four hours of electricity per day.

Rather an apropos post at "Baghdad Burning" today. http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/

10. I lived in Vermont for 38 years
We had snow, sleet, hail, freezing rain, lightning, wind and plenty of rain. The power didn't go out nearly as often as it does in California and it came back on a helluva lot quicker. Blows my mind.

21. Whoa. No kidding. Same thing in Maine.
In CA, at least the P G & E part of it, power outages are so common I've had to restock my emergency candle supply every other year.

22. Same here in NH
An outage maybe once or twice a year, half the time because some squirrel decided to commit a gaudy suicide and ran across a transformer. Four hours at most for the power to come back on.

One of the smart things the power company does is go around and cuts down tree limbs that are hanging over the lines. Makes for some strange looking trees, but it does seem to reduce the outages.

11. My dear Oeditpus Rex.......
You might consider investing in those power supply thingys.....UPS...uninterruptible power supply units....

We used to have LOTS of power outages in our townhouse..go figure!

We finally invested in a bunch of those, and then we didn't have to reprogram the TV and like that.....

:hi:

12. There's not much reprogramming to do
I lose the five "quick go-to" channels on my teevee, but the ones I've saved stay in memory. The only hassle is re-setting four digital clocks, three of which are on appliances.

The big thing is no DU.

18. Yup, and that's my main gripe with it
It's also why I've sworn to own nothing but old Chevies. When they break, 90 percent of the time you can fix 'em with a 9/16" combination wrench, a pair of pliers and a roll of duct tape.

Plus, they look so much cooler than Auto Moderene.

I could seriously become a Luddite, I'm tellin' ya.

Except they don't use computers, do they?

You'd have to stop DU'ing! And then we'd lose you!

20. I think I could get past that on a technicality
Use a puter connected to a pedal-powered generator.

DU and exercise! :woohoo:

15. Bummer, dude. Sounds highly annoying.
We haven't had that problem today, on our end. We've only gotten about an inch of rain, no biggie.

Hope your power stays on!
