I have to work in a REALLY bad area today...
I hate it when I have to do this. It's an area of vacant HUD homes and empty lots. This is the worst part of my job. :scared:

5. Thank you tjw!
It's what I hate most about my job. On the one hand, I feel so sad going through these neighborhoods and seeing them crumbling...on the other, I get very nervous.

7. The sadness and nerves are fundamentally intertwined.
Keep safe and keep your spirits up.

He's really pushing for it, especially in this age of foreclosures and bad mortgage situations...but I'm still holding out. :hi:

19. Are the people scarey
or are the surroundings just scarey and depressing?

Sometimes it helps to concentrate on the people.

20. A little of both. The surroundings are scary....some of these are
crack houses etc... and some of the people are just as scary i.e. like to walk up to your car and mess with you. Detroit is not known for its safety. :( Thanks supernova! :hi:

23. Huge hugs & good thoughts.
I had to work in areas like that when I did home visits while in the field of social work. My husband hated it. Nothing ever happened to me. I did walk in on a few things that I think were being "swept under the carpet" after I knocked on the door, so I always got out of there pretty quickly. Nothing I could have proved, so I didn't go there. I did love my job and most of the people on my caseload.
Hope your day goes well :-)

24. what do you mean by "bad?"
is it the area or the people? drug zone?

the funny thing is, i actually feel safer in ghettoes than i do in suburbia.

good luck though, if it's the people (and i'm sure you know this) just be a "person." showing fear or haughtiness or anything that can be misconstrued will make you noticeable.

not that i think you would ever act haughty.

i guess what i'm trying to say is, if they are black and you are white, just act natural. people who get fucked with are the ones who act like they want to fucked with.
