Thursday morning LOST thread. *spoliers*
Edited on Thu Jan-19-06 10:10 AM by QuettaKid
ANyone else uncomfortable with the direction the show is going? Jack wants to build an Army? Why haven't they gone through the bunker with a fine tooth comb? why hasn't Charlie and Ecko told everyone about their meeting with Smokey in the jungle?

1. Once they introduced the tailies
I thought they'd have trouble keeping the storylines together.

I'm all for the army idea. What other choice do they have with those crazy kid stealers running around?

2. First please edit your subject line and add the word *SPOILERS*
only because some folks will complain :eyes:

Personally, if Michael wants to run off and find his son then who can blame him and who can stop him. I why the hell would they want to build an army when the others even said here's the line you can't cross and we won't touch you if you stay on your side. That's good enough for me because they have all the food & water they need to survive on their side. What I don't get is why the others won't let the survivors off the island. That's a question I would ask since personally none of them want to live on that island in the first place.

I'm already bored with DH so I suppose it won't be long until I'm bored with Lost. This is the problem with Network Drama - when you can't watch it continuously week after week like cable & pay channels do, then you start to lose interest when you have to wait 5-6 weeks for a new episode!

3. I think there are 3 different groups.
The LOSTies, the people who took Walt, and the barefoot spooky *others*

4. But didn't Yates/Yeats say they had Walt and he was ok
I was assuming that smoking swirlie thing was the spirit of those who died in the Nigerian Plan crash

5. "Smokey" is many things
all depends on who it's interacting with. when it approached Ecko it was showing him people from his past, but when it dragged Locke into the ground, we didn't get to see any visions. best guess on the LOST board is it's some sort of Nanotech.

7. They said they wouldn't touch them
But that hasn't been true up until now. They killed some people (from both groups, IIRC). And they've definitely taken/kidnapped a whole mess of people. And they have no problem sending their "spies" across the "line in the sand".

I'd side with Jack on this one. I wouldn't trust them at all and would want to do everything possible to protect myself.

9. Other than Walt, who have then taken or kill from the Mids?
The three we know who have died from the Mids were not related to the others:

Boone - Died from injuries when the Nigerian plane fell out of the tree
Shannon - Died from being shot by tailie Ana-Luca (accidental)
US Marshall - Died from wounds sustained from the crash.

Now we do know that the tailies have had people taken from their group but we don't know if those people were killed or just moved to another group. And it seems the others are interested especially in the children (when they took all the tailie kids including the two that Ana-Lucia was watching over and kidnap pregnant Claire trying to take her kid). They probably want the kids so they can continue on their tribe. The only tailie we know that died was that punk kid who Ana-Lucia swore was the one taking the kids. If I'm correct she killed them too. And I'm thinking the reason they took people from the tailies was because they were on the others' side of the island.

The episode where we learned about the Tailies and their first 40 days on the island I got the impression from the others that they held hostage (awww, I didn't want to see Brent Cullen only be on the show for one episode) was that those who were too pure were taken away. Almost like the island is purgatory. That makes sense because the children would all be considered innocent and thus shouldn't be in purgatory. And from all the backflash clips we've seen on the survivors we've learned that most of them have violated one if not many of the 7 Deadly Sins

10. I can't remember if it was one or two people
After Ethan kidnapped Claire and Charlie (and left Charlie to die), remember how Ethan approaches Charlie and tells him that he has to bring him Claire or they'll kill a person a day?

And then proceed to do so?

From the ABC recaps (Homecoming episode, I believe):
"Back on the island that night, Boone is on sentry detail. As the torches burn on the perimeter, and the waves gently crash against the shore, he struggles to keep his eyes open -- listening for the sound of the tripwire and the cans. Maybe he can rest his eyes for one brief second? Surely he's got that long to…BANG! Boone opens his eyes, its morning! Oh no, how long was he asleep? He goes off, spear at the ready to investigate, but the only intruder he finds is Vincent, the dog. But just as he is letting himself off the hook we hear a SCREAM from down by the water. Oh my God…one of the castaways is dead. And whatever killed him, it wasn't an accident. "

So that's definitely one right there.

11. Ok I forgot about the woman in the water but that was for a reason
Edited on Thu Jan-19-06 11:34 AM by LynneSin
They wanted Claire because of her baby - children are innocents on the island and they are taken away - that french girl's baby, the 2 kids from the tail, Claire's baby and now Walt. So Charlie tried to prevent Claire from being kidnap so he is officially fair game. Had Charlie just stood there and let them take Claire I'm sure he would have been fine.

And if you're correct that means the woman in the water was simply a casualty because they wanted Claire's baby.

Even Sawyer was shot at by them simply because he tried to protect Walt

12. The woman in the water was different
That was very early on, and apparently, an accident. (Episode 5, I think from looking at the recaps).

The one killed by the Others following Ethan's ultimatum to Charlie was a man, I believe. After he dies, that's when the Middies lay the trap for Ethan and Charlie ends up killing him.

Are they really "protecting innocents" if they're killing anyone who prevents them from being taken? Doesn't seem like justice in my book.
