any of you people meditate?
Edited on Thu Jan-19-06 10:41 AM by anarch
Well, let me tell you, I'll kick your ass at meditation, baby! I am the serenest! That's right! The goddamn SERENEST I tell you!!!

OK, I admit, this was done in an old Onion article, from the "Sports" page:

But really, anybody meditate? If so, how would you describe what you do? I myself am not so good at meditating on a regular schedule, but when I sit down to practice I usually start off with focusing my attention on my breath, and after a while sort of diffuse that attention to include everything. Anapanasati/Vipassana, I guess.

1. Rosary.
Some would debate whether it's actually meditation, but I'd certainly argue that it is. Also sometimes Orthodox prayer rope, which is similar but simply less structured.

2. I'd say that qualifies
I'd say there are many kinds of Christian prayer that could be considered forms of meditation, at least when they're performed with real concentration and purpose, not just done in a rote kind of way.

3. I do.
My karate dojo and my spritual community both believe in meditation (the sitting and releasing all thoughts from your head kind) so I try to do it every day.

6. In my opinion, if you meditate so much that you forget to eat or sleep
for days or weeks at a time, and you die, then you have meditated too much. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

7. I meditate
I started with simple mindfulness meditation, focusing on the breath.

Now I'm trying some Dzogchen techniques were you try to trick the mind into going beyond ego/self.

9. Fairly regularly
Vipassana/breath awareness mostly. Mindful motion and stretching.

And I am the serenest meditator, dammit!

10. Yes.
I started when I began practicing yoga about 10 years ago and then deepened my practice to help control my anxiety. I don't have a set routine. Sometimes I sit quietly and try to control the monkey mind and other times I just pray. :)
