LOST and a hypothesis about the island **maybe spoilers** |
|
You know, each of the flashbacks we've seen of the survivors usually they are committing at least one of the Seven Deadly Sins (ie: Lust, Greed, Envy, Sloth, Gluttony, Wrath, and Pride)
Think of the flashbacks last night as Jack attempted the difficult surgury that even his father had refused to do. Jack's sins? Pride (he thought he was so good that he could attempt something even his father wouldn't do) and Lust (he made out with the daughter of his patient).
IN fact all of them have show violations of the 7 Deadly Sins: Mr Eko: Pride and Wrath Sayid: Wrath and Lust (he lusted after one of his prisoners carrying her picture) Claire: Greed (she wanted to give up her child so she wouldn't have to raise it herself) Jack: See Above Hurley: Sloth & Gluttony Sawyer: Wrath Michael: Greed (he didn't want to give up his kid even though the child would have had a better life with his ex-wife and new husband) Jin: Pride Sun: Sloth (for not trying to get out of the relationship) Kate: Wrath, Envy & Lust Charlie: Definately Gluttony for Heroin Locke: Envy - he wanted a father and a life with his father probably also some pride because he was trying to prove himself capable even though he was in a wheelchair Ana-Lucia: Definate Wrath Shannon: Sloth (She basically did nothing with her life and lived off other men) Boone: Lust (he did lust after his step-sister Libby: We don't know yet about her story.
So what I'm getting at is all of these people have violated the 7 Deadly Sins and the island is purgatory. When they tried to get off the island they were denied by the others. And in the episode about the Tailies we learned from the other (played by Brett Cullen) that some were taken away because they were too pure, especially the children.
And last night Yates/Yeats (I didn't quite get the name) said they weren't allowed to cross over to their side of the island. Maybe because that side wouldallow them to get off the island and out of purgatory.
Whatcha Think?

2. The purgatory theory was dismissed by J.J. Abrams a while back |
|
Although Abrams laughed (appropriately) at a question about when frequent "Alias" plot device Rimbaldi would become a factor on "Lost," he admitted that the show's staff is very conscious of viewer response on sites including "The Fuselage." Thankfully Abrams dismissed the popularly held theory that the castaways are stranded in Purgatory, though he claimed to like the idea. http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271%7C94107%7C1%7C,00.html

4. Yeah, the creators have dismissed the Purgatory theory. |
|
At this point I'm not sure what the island is all about, apart from some failed social experiment that the castaways are unwittingly part of.
