Need sympathy for I have hurt myself |
|
I did this once before in high school. Got a blister on a disc in my back that pressed on the sciatic nerve. Spent a month lying on the floor with my knees propped up on pillows.
It's far more inconvenient now as I have 2 kids and a husband to take care of and a house to clean and a cheerleading squad to coach. Now I can't get under their stunts when they learn new ones or stand to the side as a spotter. No way I can lift someone else in this state. :^(

11. You bend the wrong way and force the disc's fluid outside of the |
|
spinal column and it make a bubble on the disc which presses on the nreves around it. (Or something to that effect)

6. I can totally sympathize, GPV |
|
I injured myself two weeks ago, after I took the kids bowling. I've got a strain/sprain injury to the piriformis muscle, that connects with the sciatic nerve, so basically, I've been in pain with EVERY step. It sucks...and it's incredibly humbling to be so much at the effect of one's body.
How'd you injure yourself? I haven't read the thread yet...
Hang in there! I wish you well. We gotta keep remembering: This, too, shall pass.

12. Dang, the cub scouts are going bowling on Tuesday. No way I can |
|
participate now. *pout*
I am not sure what I did. Probably it's a combination of not walking enough over the winter, putting on too much weight, and picking something up the wrong way. :(
Hope you feel better soon too!

(erector spinae, lower back) muscle relaxers can make it worse. The best thing you can take for it is Ibuprofen (advil) twice a day to keep the inflammation from triggering spasm and neuralgias.
Also, don't linger between sitting and standing, and be sure to keep something in your lower back that preserves your "lordotic" curvature while sitting and driving (don't curve your tailbone under or "slump" your back.
Whenever it feels like it's going out, get thee to the nearest bed for a minute and do this:
sit on the edge of the bed, and "lift" and work yourself back to where your ankles are halfway off the bed, then lay back, using your arms to keep from flouncing down. Lay that way on your back for a minute or two, no pillow - it takes pressure off the disk and sciatic and can stop a spasm that's just starting up. You might pull one hip up, then the other, and sort of flex your back around a little (squirm), and then lay still again.
After this, sit up, push forward to the edge of the bed, get your heels and feet flat on the ground (without bending over) and stand straight up all at once, and your spasm should be virtually gone (until the next time).
