Poll question: Functional or dysfunctional holiday family?
Edited on Thu Nov-27-03 12:03 PM by Padraig18
I hear so much about dysfunctional family holiday get-togethers, that I thank God my family is spared that particular affliction. That said, is your family functional or dysfunctional at the holidays?

Edit: typo

1. It can be a warzone!
Especially with the "Scandavian" as I call my blonde little brother, that kid will get you to the brink but overall as of late things have been good. Oh I call him that because thats what he looks, hes blonde as anything, even brighter blue eyes than me, you get the picture.

2. My family is a pretty good bunch really, and I'm thankful
I know what you mean though about reading so much of the dysfunction in others. I almost feel guilty sometimes because I haven't had to suffer the angst and anguish of mean relatives.

3. Yes.
It sorta makes me sad for people who don't undnderstand the excitement and anticipation of an upcoming holiday get-together (not meant to sound condescending).

4. My family consists of my mother
and a bunch of distant counsins and uncles that aren't even closely related to us.

It's pathetic and I hate it.

5. Strangers but they're family, kinda, distantly....
I'm staying with my grandmother's brother, and were going to dinner at his daughters house. The daughter has a little girl who will have all three sets of grandparents there (my great uncle is divorced with a "lady friend"), and me. That makes 10 people. Of those 10 people I have met 2, and those 2 I have met within the last three days. This is going to be interesting.....

6. Only chosen "family" today

Two couples in the neighborhood are coming over at 5.
One of the guys is a former squadron mate and was my best man almost 34 years ago.
My immediate family (besides Miz t.) are my daughter, son-in-law and grandson near Boston. They're going to friends in Maine this afternoon, but THEY'RE COMING HERE FOR CHRISTMAS!

The 5 of us get along like peas in a pod. I can't wait.

7. Where I'm going today is a pretty good bunch
We just don't agree on politics, but they are not hard ass freepers or hateful mean conservatives by any stretch of the imagination.

My day will be a relaxing and enjoyable one with this bunch. I always enjoy gatherings with my sister and her husbands extended family.

8. I said other
because I have a wonderful hubby and two terrific young men for sons. Alone we do great. My childhood family was a big, HUGE mess but as of last year both parents and both brothers are dead. So, we get invited now to my husbands family who are out of town. They are good people and I like being with them but they hire help to come in and do all the work and that really bugs me to take others aways from their families on a holiday ( even though it is their choice and these days most people need the extra cash), they even do it on Christmas. So I go in and help the help because it is my way of being thankful and then they get home earlier and they are thankful and it all works out. Besides, there is only so much sitting around and small talk I can tolerate and his family has a hard time relating to my life style. I think I bug them a bit. LOL!
