John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High"... |
|
is actually not a joke of a song at all. I'm listening to it right now, and it's really pretty good. In fact, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's freakin' FANTASTIC. I LOVE this song. "Rocky Mountain High" is just f&^#%in' GREAT!!!
I'm just sayin'. If you're not a John Denver fan, or if you don't even know who he is, I implore you to check this song out. You won't be disappointed.

1. It would be hard to find a better |

acoustic 12-string player or composer. And I think RMH demonstrates that.

3. By gosh, that IS a 12-string he's playing |
|
Okay, then I think it's even more brilliant. A lot of people who can play a 12-string "show it off", but this song just plays it for the beauty of it.

6. X-reference "I Am the Eagle.." |

Same kind of subject.
He has a way of animating Nature, as a force on its own that I find very rare and therefore appealing.

11. not to quibble, but you can probably find two or three better |
|
12-string players teaching at pretty much any acoustic music shop in America, BUT he was a decent picker and an excellent songwriter.
And I'm definitely not a fan.

Simple, sincere music is not always silly. I like almost all of his music, except for the Country Boy song.

7. I never cared for the Country Boy song either |
|
I know it was supposed to be silly, but I think he hit that target much better with "Grandma's Feather Bed", which is just a really fun song. I loved it as a kid and the kids in my family love it too.

5. I always thought he deserved more credit than he got. |
|
Except for that stupid "Country Boy" song most of his music was well-written and the performances were excellent.

9. He was born in the summer of his 27th year |

Personally, I first saw the Rockies in 1980. Just after my 26th birthday. The song is one of my anthems.
