Forrest just won't shut up, dammit...Gump sings every song ever recorded

Elvis songs, that is...

More linked MP3s, for anyone who's interested. Some have a bit of annoying distortion that I think is mostly the result of noise reduction (very necessary -- the real question is why the things record with so much electronic noise in the first place) but I hope they're listenable.

Thanks!

The Elvis Medley (ill-advised 1982 attempt at sacrilege a la "Stars on 45," but kinda cool and fun to do different voices and songs sequentially within a single take...my voice clashed with the backup singers on one small part of "Suspicious Minds," no matter what approach I took with my vocal -- I really don't know exactly what the problem is, just that it sounds off -- and I couldn't remove or change them or figure how to match my vocal (I tried ten times), but...what me worry...if you notice its jarring presence, just mentally mute that bit, please, and I'll see if I can finally get it right some other time :D )

3. Darn..."Suspicious Minds" -- I did some clumsy editing on that,
and I think I'd better revisit the file at some point and do a little tidying. Maybe I have overdone the double-tracking, too. :-)

It's a great song, though, isn't it? Almost wasn't recorded because the Colonel insisted that all the songs at those stellar '69 Memphis sessions came through Elvis' own publishing companies...one of the few times Elvis basically told him to f*** off, a response that ensured not only "Suspicious Minds" (that Elvis knew was a hit as soon as he finished it) but songs like "In The Ghetto" and "Kentucky Rain."

I love "Promised Land," too...always one of my favorites. Those December 1973 sessions in Memphis' famed Stax studios produced uniformly excellent performances and may be one of the most underrated sessions of Elvis' career. Elvis' "Promised Land" is the song that inspired both Mojo Nixon and Travis Tritt -- an unlikely duo -- to become performers.

By the way, you remember those old ones I gave you links to? Done when I had a cold?

I had a stab at a few of the concert tracks again and I think they came out a bit better (not "A Big Hunk O' Love," though -- it was better when I had a cold, though that may have had something to do with overdoing the singing this night). Here's what I've got, so far, anyway:

2. True Love Travels On A Gravel Road

Finally got it to upload. Here it is:

http://s62.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0K8Z64MVTSW6D0HRGIFKXO8PB3

I tried everything to get it to upload properly -- it certainly took the same length of time uploading but just was not available for download -- so, in the end, I renamed it "WhateverDude" and, whatcha know, it worked. Apparently, that server does not like True Love.

11. Thanks!
Baby, don't say "don't." :-)

I love that one, too. It's kind of a perfect ballad. It was probably his most vocally ambitious ballad of the '50s (all over his vocal range, too, within a single breath going from solid low notes to pretty airy high notes) and he cited it as his favorite of his after he recorded it, at least until he came back from the Army and recorded stuff like "It's Now Or Never" in March of 1960.

Thank you!

12. Will there be bridesmaids?

Oh...that kind of playing! :p

When and where is the most bodaciously happy day? It'd be fun...shoot, I should do like lots of Elvises here and try to get into performing weddings (or, at least, sing at them or even meet-and-greet and take pictures...pays obscenely well and would be a ton of fun). Now, when couples ask me if I can marry them, I just tell them that I don't think it's legal in this state. :D

For that matter: congratulations! :headbang:

13. Ooooo...that one IS a good one
Blows the original out of the water, in my opinion...well, it's very different, anyway. But it's one I've usually got to be in the right mood to really appreciate listening to.

I'll give it a try -- haven't done it in a while and never fully committed without distractions going on. There're some pretty heinous notes to hit at the end if I try to do it like Elvis did in the last year or so. :scared:

14. No, not the evil anti-Elvis!
Wait a minute...that's Michael Bolton. Yeah, the Costello Elvis is cool enough. :D

Though I still think he should've called himself Buddy Costello. Sorta like Buddy Jesus.
