Poll question: Favorite TV Genre |
|
and Why?
I like dramas especially mysteries for a number of reasons.
1. I like to try and figure out who done it. 2. The bad guys usually get caught and or punnished 3. No matter what is wrong in my life usually something worse is happening to to someone from one of these shows.
Fantasy and Science Fiction comes next because anything is possible. People can come back from the dead, travel to different universes, and even though it's often implausiable, if not impossible, at least it is fun to imagine for awhile.
Then the Documentary/How Tos because I can often learn something and since they are usually non-controversial, they help me calm down when I'm too wired, worried, or furious about something. They are also usually hosted by people with very "calming voices." This is what I put on in the background if I can't sleep. It kind of comforts me enough to get me to relax and sleep.
Most of the comedies on the air these days are too lame and not at all funny, and I am not overly fond of the reality genre though I will occassionally watch American Idol and am tempted to watch Skating with the Stars for a few laughs and well because I like to watch figure skating every once in a while.

I do my best to watch every new comedy show at least once and also watch a lot of old videos/DVDs ad infinitum. I find myself enjoying fewer and fewer new shows lately though and have had to force myself to watch things like "Extras", "Nathan Barley" and recent "Little Britain" just to keep up to date.
I watch very little British drama, I'm ashamed to say - "Shameless" is the only one that springs instantly to mind. In fact that, "Desperate Housewives" and "Lost" (and "Doctor Who" if you count it) were the only dramas I watched last year apart from one-off TV movies like "The Weapons Inspector".
I do get suckered into reality TV, but the last 12 months of it have been so horrible to watch I'm about to give up. Last night I was yelling at the screen as George Galloway sat saying nothing whilst Pete Burns launched a vicious and racist ("I'm calling you a bitch because that's the only language that black people understand." - may not be exact, but that was the gist) attack on Traci Bingham. That's not entertainment.
I watch quite a lot of documentaries, but increasingly they are getting crasser and more sensationalist.
