XM or Sirius??
I am looking into getting a receiver, and wondered about what kind of experience you folks have had with them.

Any products you would recommend?

1. Sirius seems to be more "lefty"
I got an XM receiver for Christmas (I returned it)... it didn't have BBC World Service, CBC, or NPR, but it had Fox "News".

Sirius has better news, plus Howard Stern and CBC news and CBC music channels.

9. XM does have BBC World Service; it's channel 131.
However, it's not available over the Internet for some reason.

3. Former XM subscriber, current Sirius subscriber.

All around, Sirius is the better of the two. Better variety of music, better variety of channels, better sound quality. Xm was okay, but their channel playlists were redundant. They have four alternative channels all pretty much playing the same thing.

My personal favorite channels are Left of Center (26), Boombox (34) and Underground Garage (15).

in defense of XM, though, they do have AAR, and, contrary to popular rumor, are NOT owned by Clear Channel. Still, CC does have stake in the company.

edit- both services offer a free 3-day listening trial. All you have to do is submit your email address and name and they send you the activation notice.

10. I miss Left of Center.
I'm the opposite, I like XM better for music variety. But, Left of Center alone was better than most of the channels on XM. Sirius is also better for talk radio. But, XM has NHL. It really is hard to choose, I guess :) It depends on what kind of radio you want to listen to.

6. For Music go with Sirius, For Content go XM (unless you like Howard Stern)
Stern is not everyone's cup of tea. If he is yours, you have to go with Sirius. If it is music you are into, Sirius seems to have a better selction. I have both. I pay for Sirius, but my company car has XM and they pay for it.

XM has AAR and a great comedy line up, way better talk radio than Sirius Left and Martha Stewart.

Go with a free trial for both and make your own decision.

11. I did have Sirius; now I have XM.
I switched because I enjoy Air America.

However, I still get the Sirius music channels, because I have DISH-TV. I get to listen to my beloved Buzzsaw (#19).

So, I'm a happy camper.

My hubby might reactivate the Sirius account - who knows?

They both sure beat regular radio.

12. XM for me because of Air America
And now that Malloy's on at his rightful time, I'm not thinking of switching back to Sirius. Only advantage to me of Sirius is that Sirius' new/indie music channels seem deeper. XM often plays VERY little known stuff on channel 43, while Sirius will let you check out some bands you've heard about but won't hear on the pop station.
