Just back from Costco. Don't bother going.
There is no food left. I had to buy it all to feed the pigs that live with me.

who consume everything I purchase like it is their last meal.

52. if they ate like that in my house (and didn't offer to help shop/cook) ...
... it WOULD be their last meal! If I helped myself to candy, cookies, etc. outside of mealtimes, my mom would deduct that from my allowance. My aunts were even harsher -- starting at age 10, their kids had to help prepare meals, and make up menus for one day of the week (mom or dad would buy the stuff for them but the kids had to give them lists and stay within a budget). When my youngest cousin was at college, her roomies were in awe of her because she could do a whole Thanksgiving meal on her own (roast the turkey and everything), before she'd turned 19 ... the other students in her house were still opening cans or eating off the cafeteria meal plan.

I love Costco! It's not time to go yet, though - we go once a month. Have you tried the Kirkland 2% organic milk? It's to die for!

7. I love Costco. I usually go twice a month.
The deals on cereal, toilet tissue, paper towels, wine, etc., can't be beat. Plus ours has some outstanding seafood.

13. The worst part is when I go to grab an ingredient to make dinner
and it has been sucked down like candy. Like the black olives, or the feta cheese, or the bread. They are going through about 1 1/2 loaves of bread A DAY! I can't keep it in the house.

And their friends....Dear God. A bunch of my daughter's friends came over on a snow day and left me with essentially an empty pantry and two empty refrigerators. It was pretty scary. It was like that scene from Animal House. "Just keep your hands and feet away from his mouth".

18. Yup. And that isn't including me or my husband.
The kids like toast for breakfast, then sandwiches for their school lunches, and then usually a PB and J after school. It is ridiculous.

Judging by the amount they eat, they should all weigh 1000 pounds.

22. The trick is not to go nuts there
It's like anyplace else, if you want to save money you go in with a list and don't impulse shop. I filled up the cargo area of my wagon with stuff I need and will use yesterday for $65. Can't beat that.

Oh, I guess you mean the membership fee? I have an executive membership, so I get a % back. Over the year it pays for itself, plus I save a fortune on basics like bread, soymilk, peanutbutter, etc. Heck, I save enough on 3 items: gas, soymilk and ink cartridges to pay for my membership a few times over.

23. That's like us.
We have an exec membership as well and we get a lot back every year because I purchase big ticket items there as well. I got a TV there, my digital camera, etc., I found that I can get higher end stuff for the same money as a Target, etc.,

The books are a real bargain as well.

unless I see a kick-ass deal someplace else that's worth passing up Costco's return policy over. I like getting DVDs there, they have really good prices on them. Video games, too.

I get a lot of my office supplies for work there too, they're much cheaper than the office chain stores on basics like envelopes.

29. No, I was just saying a smart-ass line. We actually belong, too.
and we've also got the executive membership. Seriously, I could do a commercial for Costco. heheh. It's been a real benefit to have one in our community, despite the bitching everybody did when it first came.

I agree, the trick is to stay focussed on what's on your list and not get impulsive. Easier said, than done, however... ;)
