Police chief accused of drinking on the job

McARTHUR, Ohio (AP) — The police chief in this southeast Ohio town has been accused of drinking alcohol on the job and failing to respond to calls.

Chief Joseph Drew, 57, was charged in Vinton County Court on Thursday with two misdemeanor counts of dereliction of duty.

Drew relaxed on a front porch of a home last July and consumed alcoholic beverages instead of responding to radio calls, according to a court complaint.

The calls he received from a sheriff's dispatcher were about a possible fight in front of a hotel and a report of fireworks being set off near a car wash, according to the document...
