Question about the film, "The Usual Suspects" and Keyser Soze
How do we know for sure that Kevin Spacey's character, Kint, was really Keyser Soze? There is the artist's sketch, but that relies on that one guy's testimony. Kint could have been someone that Soze hired to be him. Or, Soze is only a grand myth.

What do you say?

1. We don't know that he is at all, and it appears
from the background in the Detective's office, that "Keyser Soze" is entirely made up, as well as most of the details of Kint's recounting.

2. You don't
I haven't seen this film since it came out on video and haven't read anything about it for just as long, but at the time it came out there was a big debate in the letters page of the UK film magazine "Empire", which resulted in a couple of features about who was what. Bryan Singer was interviewed and said that Kint is definately Soze, but a lot of fans pointed out various things which challenged that (I honestly can't remember what these were, but it did involve stuff that didn't make it into the final cut - perhaps that's on the DVD?). IIRC, Gabriel Burns was interviewed and said that he thought he was Soze for most of the shooting of the film, which is quite interesting although again, I can't remember his reasoning. I ended up settling on the Kint is Soze side, but I'd really need to see the movie again to tell you why.

3. The Film Never Confirms That Kint Is Soze
The one man that could identify Soze was killed on that ship. Kint could have been another stooge hired by Soze to enact the plan. Or, Soze could have never even existed.

5. There really wasn't supposed to be an
answer to the question of who Keyser Soze was. There were three options to choose from: it was Kint, it was Kobayashi, or Soze was just made up by Kint. The writer of this movie laughed all the way to the bank.
