1. Basketball.
I can't stand the game.

For baseball, it's really irrelevant what teams are playing. So long as it's not a 200-zip game each time which would be boring.

20. thanks.
It's hard to get enthusiastic about baseball when your team is always at the bottom.

Oddly enough, that rule doesn't seem to apply to football, though. :D

24. Funny, I love my Twins, even when they are cellar dwellers
My fondest memories of childhood were going with my dad to Twins games at the old Met Stadium. I never got to a Vikings game at the Met, but remember watching them on TV. Those players were TOUGH!

44. He grew up in my hometown
and was a member of the first graduating class of my junior high. I was sports editor of the school newspaper (such as it was) when I learned this — it was '69, the season he took the Vikes to the Super Bowl. I wrote him a letter and he wrote back, and I did a story based on what he wrote. My first "big story."

The day before the Super Bowl, I found out what hotel in New Orleans the Vikings were staying at and I sent him a telegram: "Sock it to 'em and stay away from Aaron Brown." The next day, Chiefs DE Aaron Brown broke Kapp's collarbone. :eyes:

(I met him years later when he was coaching Cal and came back to his alma mater to speak at an assembly. I still had the letter and showed it to him.)

27. Even the Giants got a better song
When the Giants come to town,
it's "Bye-Bye Baby!"
Every time the chips are down,
it's "Bye-Bye Baby!"
History's in the making
at Candlestick Park
Cheer for the batter
and light the spark!

If you're a fan of Giants baseball,
sing "Bye-Bye Baby!"
If you want to be in first place,
call "Bye-Bye Baby!"
Listen to the broadcast on KSFO
Turn up the volume and hear 'em go.

With the San Francisco Giants,
it's "Bye-Bye Baby!"

("Tell it bye-bye baby!" was the home-run call of the late, great Giants announcer Russ Hodges, he of "The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!" fame.)

We're gonna win Twins
Give it our all
We've got the guys to knock
The cover off the ball!
Let's hear it now for
The team who came to play!
Cheer for the Minnesota
Twins today!

(they added that one in the mid 90s)

36. There's a lot more to pulling for a ball club
than their record.

Pulling for the Jankees is like being a Freeper. The Jankees have the soul of Dick Cheney.

Making Johnny Damon get a haircut was just Jankee bullshit.
