My fondest memories of childhood were going with my dad to Twins games at the old Met Stadium. I never got to a Vikings game at the Met, but remember watching them on TV. Those players were TOUGH!

I was sports editor of the school newspaper (such as it was) when I learned this — it was '69, the season he took the Vikes to the Super Bowl. I wrote him a letter and he wrote back, and I did a story based on what he wrote. My first "big story."

The day before the Super Bowl, I found out what hotel in New Orleans the Vikings were staying at and I sent him a telegram: "Sock it to 'em and stay away from Aaron Brown." The next day, Chiefs DE Aaron Brown broke Kapp's collarbone. :eyes:

(I met him years later when he was coaching Cal and came back to his alma mater to speak at an assembly. I still had the letter and showed it to him.)
