A round of applause for Mrs R from all the moms here, if you please. |

Edited on Sun Jan-22-06 12:35 AM by Redstone
Tonight was the first night she's spent away from the Little Guy (except for an unavoidable night in the hospital) in nine and a half years.
She went with two of our neighbor ladies to visit a former neighbor lady in Newport (RI); a "girls' road trip" they had planned for several months. Not only did she not punk out of the trip, she only called ONCE to say goodnight to us, and didn't moo over us at all.
Having been told when she was younger that she couldn't have kids, then tangling with the Redstone Mojo and becoming pregnant at 43 years old, I'm sure you can imagine how tough it was for her to go away for the weekend, even though the Little Guy was left in my more than capable hands (I raised my older son by myself for a couple of years, so I know how to do this).
But she did it. The Little Guy is tucked away in dreamland after being stuffed with rental movies and popcorn, and all is well at Casa Redstone.
But I'll miss her warmth when I go up to bed in a while.
Redstone

I went to Minneapolis with my friend and got a hotel room for a couple days, last summer. We brought booze, facial and nail supplies, and spent the weekend giggling, sleeping in, shopping, and being generally silly and crazy. It was a much needed sanity break!
She's going to have a blast! Good for her (and you!)

Hopefully she will continue to do this now and then. It's good for her, and it's good for you and Little Guy to do some dad/son bonding!

10. I've had to tell her repeatedly the last few weeks that it's good for her |
|
to get away now and again. The Little Guy and I do the bonding thing every Saturday and Sunday (and the occasional day during the week when I can bail out of work early), so there's no problem there...in fact, he spent the first hour of his life walking around the hospital on my shoulder, with me telling him about the big, big world out there, while Momma was being stitched up. We're about as bonded as we can get, even if it's to Mom's irritation sometimes.

4. Congratulations to Mrs. R! |
|
Careful, though, my dear Redstone.......She might just decide that she likes this.....
And does it more than you might want her to!
Although I doubt that she will go that way........

12. Nah. No worries about that. |
|
It took a big effort on my part to get her to actually go on this trip...see my other observations in this thread.
Thanks for being a pal, CP.

and btw...awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I can sympathize...am going NUTS not being at work after 2 years. We have no babysitter AT ALL; so I know what you mean. Since I am an "adult entertainer"; you can guess I am jumping out of my skin. MEOW. Glad she's having fun. Bless the little one.........

I'm hoping to send LK off for an overnight at his Dad's soon. I've never spent that long away from him but I think he and I can handle it. He'll be 5 this spring.

11. My older son lived with me pretty much from when he was 3 until |
|
he was 5-1/2 and Mrs R came into our lives.
Trust Dad to know what he's doing, OK?
Unless he doesn't. I don't know the specifics of our situation, so please trust your instincts instead of my advice.

14. He's pretty good at the Daddy thing |
|
I definitely trust him with LK, and I'm sure LK can handle being away overnight, I just wonder if I can handle it. I worry, it's what mothers do best.

15. But you have to do it anyway. The best thing that parents can do for |
|
their kids is to let them grow up.
Not easy, but true. Trust me on this.

13. Whoah! She needs to do this more often. |
|
I have 5 kids under the age of 9.
It's hard to get away, but it is IMPERATIVE for mental health.
Hope she was able to sleep and rest and have some fun.

day for me physically, but there was NO way I was going to let Mrs R or the Little Guy in on that fact; best all around if they never know.
