The Perfect Storm

This is Storm, who we adopted from our local animal shelter this past summer. She's a sweetie! :D

1. She looks like a wonderful friend.
I'll bet she is very appreciative of your saving her life and giving her a home! I really appreciate that you didn't go with a pure breed designer dog and saved a good dogs life. For that I say Thank you MiwSher!

4. She's my girl :)
I've always supported our local animal shelter and have adopted from there before. This is my first dog, though. She's a great friend, that's for sure. :)

2. I'm guessing lots of border collie?
Does she try to herd you?

3. You can't herd cats. :)
I am, of course, referring to the independent thinking of progressive folks. :) Although there are cats in this family as I well know.

I doubt Percy the big, black cat would allow himself to be herded. ;)

6. Wanna bet? LOL!!
She's learned that our cats simply will not be herded... at least, not in the house. :D Outside is another thing. LOL!

5. LOL! Actually....
I use a wheelchair and whenever my s.o. pushes me from the front yard to the back yard, Storm trots along side of me and takes my hand gently in her mouth as we go along. I love it when she "helps" like that. She's become very protective of me, too. And yep, she's a border collie.

I can imagine how she would respond to a burglar. Yikes!

8. Egads!
I just hope I don't have to find out. That's why we got her in the first place, remember? :scared:

9. What a beautiful pup!
I bet she would get along fine with my shelter pup, Nick-Nick.

11. Nick-Nick looks like a terrier mix of some kind.
Do have any idea what breeds went into making Nick-Nick? He has to have something besides terrier to make him tall, although Airdales are pretty big. :)

He's very cute. Does he act like a big terrier...that would be scary. :D :D :D :D

12. Whatever kills snakes, that's Nick-Nick.
An Irish friend thinks Nick-Nick is part Kerry Blue terrier. The face, ears, and tail definitely support that theory, but not the body hair. He has Airedale and Setter qualities, too. Hard to say with a mutt from the Dallas SPCA.

A Kerry Blue terrier (the face and ears is quintessential Nick-Nick!).

10. Kicking this because 1) MiwSher is a friend of mine (NOT a troll),
2) I love border collies and think this is a remarkably beautiful dog, and 3) Sundays tend to be a bit slow.

Come on in, regulars. Please gush over the dog and show us your doggies, kitties, birdies, fishies, snakies, or whateveries. :)

14. She is absolutely gorgeous!! We had a Border Collie and he was
very protective of the house and of us. Sadly, he is no longer with us. Border Collies are so damn smart and they learn so quickly. She really is beautiful.

Our Border Collie, Cody.

20. Sorry to hear that Cody has passed on. :(
Yes, border collies are very intelligent. When I was a child, my grandparents raised turkeys (8,000 to 10,000 per year) as well as cattle and their border collie, called "Boots," would herd them all by himself. That dog gave me a lifelong love for the breed.

24. They are amazing, aren't they? We get the BBC on our satellite
dish and they used to have a show called "A Man and His Dog." They showed various herding competitions in England and Wales. I would get up on Sunday morning at 7am just so I could watch it. It is unbelievable what these dogs can do.

Our Border, Cody, had a very, very strong herding instinct. Anything that moved, he tried to herd.

25. Storm seems to try to herd birds!
:eyes: Yes, I said birds. :D There is likely some spaniel in her, I think. Did you ever have Cody in agility training? Storm is extremely fast, especially when going for her frisbee. :)

26. Nope, we never got Cody into agility training. He would have
been good at it, though. We got him from a rescue organization when he was five years old. He had belonged to an older woman who had to go into a nursing home. He needed so much activity, I don't know how she did it!

Cody was also the only Border Collie I knew that would not chase a ball!! He was very fast, though.

I remember taking him to the dog park one day. As we came through the gate, a man looked at Cody and said, "Now that's a dog!"
