Poll question: Who Loves Their Job? |
|
I think that I'm extremely lucky to have a job that I enjoy doing. I get to travel the world and get a lot of satisfaction for doing my job well. Am I in the minority?

I like my job but don't love it. It's a job, not a career. And yes, you are lucky - so many people are stuck doing things they don't even like.

I hate every minute of every workday. The actual work doesn't bother me but the people in charge go out of their way to make peoples lives hell. I have taken to just being quiet, I just don't respond if a boss decides he is going to take out frustrations on me. (The Kava-Kava I take every morning seems to help)

10. I'd be surprised to find a Gannett minion |
|
who's happy with their employer.
But then, is it any different anywhere else in the industry?

16. I never worked for Gannett |
|
except as a sports stringer a few eons ago, but I worked for newspapers long enough to know there aren't any good ones in terms of how they treat employees — just some that are less bad.
Maybe it'll get a little better if McClatchy buys Knight-Ridder. Then again, maybe it won't. And anyway, I don't see that deal happening.

since you started working for the company?
My sympathies, kagehime. I've been where you are, and I admire you for doing a job that is misunderstood and under-appreciated. Welcome to DU. :hi:

VP sales (started as salessperson) in an excellent staffing firm in downtown Chicago. Great bosses, great employees, superb clients, fab perks & pay, and the ability to employ many wonderful, fascinating temporary employees, whom we treated very well.
Then the co was sold. To idiots.

Went to work for a 4 person company led by a very cool, dynamic guy. He built it up to a million dollar+ company with dozens of employees and then sold it. To idiots. The idiots are smart enough to let our little part of their company run itself so far. When they start to ruin it I'll go freelance and keep doing what I do. I will miss the 5 week paid vacations though.

I'm never bored, get paid pretty well, have a lot of flexibilty and I get to meet really neat people. But at times I feel it would be nice to do something else.

I enjoy being a librarian and the position I am on is safe. The work is interesting (most of the time) and my co-workers and boss are great. I can't complain whatsoever. Ok the pay could be a wee better but other than that .... nope.

I work in a field that interests me: foreign languages and history. I only work 190 days a year and am paid to take select students on tours to Europe every summer. I couldn't ask for anything more (professionally, that is). The only drawback is that I have a long commute to and from work, but I am currently working on eliminating that aspect (and the chances look good).
I also have the satisfaction of helping and watching young people learn and grow as a result of my efforts.

I don't even like the area I live in but nobody else in my field would even come close to my pay anymore. Been here doing what I do too long.
