What music have you listened to this weekend?
Edited on Sun Jan-22-06 07:56 PM by mvd
I listened to:

Tara Angell - Come Down (I forgot this was a 2005 CD! It would have competed for at least an honorable mention. Now that it is Jan. 22, I'm just keeping by best-of list the same, though.)

Duncan Sheik - Daylight (I'm a fan, and didn't think this was much of a dropoff at all)

4 new songs from Angela Ammons at myspace.com - rockier than before, but in a good way. Fits that pop/rock style that I love. I liked her first CD a lot and expect to get her second one (which is supposedly coming out this summer.) And at 23, she has matured nicely in looks, too! Pretty stunning. Despite her small-town Texas religious roots, I don't get a Republican feel from her.

I ordered Cat Power's new CD The Greatest, and got a full album preview at amazon.com for the order - it was a perfect fit for her voice. The music felt both modern and soulful in a Dusty Springfield way. I expect The Greatest and Jenny Lewis's new one to make my best of '06 list!

Still waiting to receive my CDs from Kat Parsons and Mandi Perkins, but I expect they'll be great, too.

1. I've been on a Cat Power kick too - repeated "Moon Pix" plays &
assorted MP3's from "The Greatest". I've also been rediscovering "Skunk Anansie", after playing "Stoosh" for the first time in years last week.

Here's a bootleg of a Cat Power gigat La Cigale Paris on November 11, 2005:

9. Cool - thanks
I like Cat's voice on The Greatest's songs even more than on her alternative albums' songs.

That is a rockin piece of work. You can't listen to it and not dance with wild abandon.

7. Listened to 89.7 FM in Towson, their CD of the Week, Catpower
89.7 is a great station they played Talking Heads' song about living in a building last night.

Our parish has the best music for a small church in our diocese. One of my favorites today:
Hymn 565 "To Be a Pilgrim." It's an old folk song that Steeleye Span used as "Fighting for Strangers."

they were performing here in Santa Cruz.

At this very moment, we're listening to Madeliene Peyroux, a great jazz singer, from Canada.

17. I'm currently listening to a decent thunderstorm
Happening just outside. Most thunderstorms are background music, almost illbient, but occasionally you get struck by a raging symphony in E minor, with rolling echoes bouncing back and forth like mother nature's own techno giving off harmonics. I love those above all others.
