A question about dogs nail care... |
|
Do all you dog owners out there cut your pups nails yourself or take them to the vet? My dog is having a problem with her nail that isn't on the paw...the one that's higher up on her foot (I can't remember what it's called)...it got ingrown once. Anyway, one of my aunts said that her vet told her that unless she is completely confident in her ability to do it right and prevent any bleeding, she should bring the dog in.
So, I was just wondering what my fellow dog lovers do.
Thanks in advance.

BTW -- the weird little claw is called the dewclaw.
You COULD do it yourself if your are very conservative -- just nip off a bit at a time. To be totally cautious, have a stiptic powder available (see your pet store or vet) -- it just takes a sec to stop any minor bleeding (and of course it would be minor because you are just clipping off a teeney bit at a time, right?). When you just nip small bits, it is easy.
But if the process freaks you out -- and this is understandable -- have your vet tech do it. Maybe ask if you can watch, or if they could walk you through it....
