If you saw an 11/12 year old boy with a t-shirt saying...
"Tell your boobs to stop staring at my eyes"

what would you think? Now, if an adult had that shirt on, I'd think it was a bit obnoxious, but not really care. But, I saw the shirt on a boy that couldn't have been more than 11/12 years old yesterday at the airport. And, he was with what appeared to be a family. I can't imagine letting a young boy wear something like that in public?

1. Did they allow that boy on the plane with that shirt?
But the guy who wore this shirt

was hassled and told to turn the shirt inside out or get off the plane

6. I think that is all kinds of inappropriate.
Although, I did buy a shirt for my daughter that reads, "I am up HERE"...because I got sick of men/boys staring at her (unfortunately big for her age) chest.

37. Sorry about your daughter
A girl I went to high school with was so obsessed by boys/men staring at her chest that she refused to go on anything but blind dates... of course, her obsession was caused by those men/boys being obsessed with her chest.

Heck, my ex-wife said that one of the reasons she first liked me so much was that I was the first guy that didn't just stare at her chest - though it did take some willpower (her dad used to joke that she was really Dolly Parton's adopted daughter...)

It takes willpower to not glance down that-a-way.

But the shirt(eyes/boobs shirt) is just fucking stupid.

7. Tasteless yes, any of my business, no
Parents, and I'm one of them seem to get all upset over any type of brief nudity or references to sex on TV more than violence. Take the 1/4 second, Janet Jackson, fun-bag flash in the middle of big guys trying to injure eachother or a nude scene in you could see by hacking in "Grand Theft Auto" yet nobody protests the violence in the game itself, running over and shooting people, just the nudity. I've lived in Germany where nudity, the natural human body is taught or by just common sense, that a woman's breast is not a bad thing and everybody (women) have them. At public pools and beaches, families go nude. No big deal to them.
Back to the point, it's nobody's business, in my opinion what the parents let the kids wear, it's their right to.

33. Hi NewJeffCT
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 12:29 PM by DaveTheWave
It's like when my kids were teens. I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard, "Other kids my age are (fill in blank) so why can't I?"
The main thing I've always stressed was tolerance, acceptance, worry more about themselves as far as morals, and to be very careful about taking somebody else's rights away from them only for the reason that it offends you. I didn't mind the extra efforts that went into being a parent, explaining right from wrong but a lot of people want the easy road, "make the government ban everything offensive so that I won't have to do my job as a parent and teach my kids right from wrong myself." To make it everybody else's job instead of theirs.

Just my opinion :)

8. Why can't they just wear Rush shirts like the other cool kids?
Okay, actually just like my one student. I have an 8th grade boy who, whenever the kids don't have to be in uniform (drama rehearsals, dress-down days), always has a different Rush (the band) t-shirt on. He also has one of my favorites, which says "I do all my own stunts."

36. yes, but how old are you?
I said in my op that if it was an adult, I'd think it was obnoxious, but not give it another thought. Heck, I might even smile remembering that a few boobs have glanced in the general direction of my eyes in the past (especially now that cleavage is in style...) But, I don't think it's a good idea to be teaching an 11/12 year old that it's ok to stare at a woman's boobs.

But sadly, it goes both ways nowadays. Every time I go to the mall, I see 15 and 16 year old girls wearing "Whore" and "Porn Star" t-shirts. How parents allow children of that age to wear those shirts, I'll never know.

I've had discussions with parents on this very subject because at the school I sometimes volunteer at, I see girls wear clothing that is very revealing. I asked one woman how she allows her 13 year old daughter to wear a shirt that says "They're real"-- her comment was that "it's cute and fun!"

:wtf:

It's vile and disgusting. Children are becoming sexual objects...it's a damn shame.

42. Parents just want to be friends with their children
There is no sense of discipline anymore. Let's be friends with our kids and not teach them right from wrong because we don't want to hurt their self-esteem by saying "no" every now and again. UGH!!

I saw the horrow movie "Saw 2" yesterday at a dollar theater. There were TWO different families in the theater with young children. These kids couldn't have been older than 9 years. TWO DIFFERENT FAMILIES!! Want your child dating these kids when they grow up?

Several of these kids were 5 or 6 years old! When I was that old, I got scared at rainstorms! I can't even picture what would have happened to those kids when they saw someone thrown into a pit of hypodermic needles! How long will that stick with them?

57. My two guesses
1) Mom and Dad wanted to see it and had no babysitter so they figured they'd shell out $1 per child and "cover their eyes" at the rough spots.
or
2) The kids asked to go see it and Mom and Dad said "Ok, as long as there is no nudity or sex in it." (Not that I condone kids seeing nudity and sex, but my point is that parents react to violence completely differently than they do to nudity.)

Either way, it's bad news for the child.

58. from the descriptions I have read
and those of a friend who LOVES gory movies, it sounded like an extremely sickening movie. Seriously, I worried about letting my 9 year old see Batman Begins, since it was PG13. I had to take him out of Toy Story 2 when he was 4 since Zurg was so scary.... ;)

OTOH, I an intrigued by why people love gory movies... I like psychologically scary movies, but I am a giant weenie when it comes to gore, with the exception of Shaun of the Dead. I always ask my gore-loving friend why he loves those kinds of films....

It was a homemade creation, with the outline drawing of a woman performing oral sex on a man, done in rhinestones, of all things.

I was subbing for this class, sent the kid to the office, and never heard another word about it. I told the teacher later, and she thought it no big deal, and simply would have had the kid turn the T-shirt inside out.
