White Stripe fans check in today!! |
|
I just bought my very first White Stripes CD (Get Behind me Satan) and I must say that I'm damn impressed with this Duo.
Any other WS fans out there? Today this music thread is dedicated to you. I suppose now I'll have to go out and buy their other CDs and totally immerse myself into their music!

They're loud and fun. They're also a blessed depature from much of what's come out lately.

I like the raw energy and back to basics sparse sound they have.

My favorite is their very first album. (It's the self-titled one.)
It's really energetic and good.

I downloaded the CD you bought, listened to it once and deleted it. I must not have been in the mood, the music didn't grab me at the time I listened to it.

7. Their first record pissed me off royally, because it was |
|
such an obvious Pussy Galore rip-off.
Later, though, they fully acknowledged the influence.
I think they're fine. I like some of their songs.
And their segment in Coffee and Cigarettes was pretty funny.

If you like that new one, I think you'll definitely enjoy the older ones. They rock!
White Blood Cells from 2001 is my fave.

9. Be sure to see some of the videos |
|
If you can, rent the video "The Work of Director Michel Gondry" and check out the videos he did for the White Stripes. Very cool.

10. *Twice* I saw them play for crowds of no more than 20 - 25 people. |
|
It's amazing how far they've come. I'm not crazy about the last couple of albums, but I give 'em their due props - they've succeded wildly without having to bend over. What's kind of funny is that the whole Detroit garage scene was really on the verge of petering out when they came along, and their success jumpstarted it all over again.
FWIW, my faves are "De Stijl" and "White Blood Cells." Kickass records, those.

Isn't it weird to have seen that and then see where they are now? But, good for them. They're A-ok in my book. (I agree about the last few records too. I'm not a huge fan of this Zombie Johnny Depp thing Jack White's been bustin' out lately. The songs are ok though I guess.)

Too derivative for me. Nothing to dislike. But, nothing to get me excited either. They seem another disposable band to me. I wouldn't count on anybody remembering them in 2015. The Professor

I know derivative when i hear it. They won't be less derivative in 10 years! Like i said, i don't actively dislike them. I can listen to a song here or there. But, i just don't hear anything that makes me go "Wow, that was good!" Just ok! The Professor

I am partial to their first, untitled CD. They made a lot of racket for just two people on that album.

and with a woman drummer no less. Also like the Michael Gondry video. Too bad many others with a similar style without as much publicity behind 'em can't do as well. I thought they were the best thing on the Grammy's that one year. ;)
